2009 Gen2 died while riding to work - frustrating and I need some advise please

It sounds very much like an ignition switch issue -- but could also be as simple as a loose battery connection. Check those first.

FJR in the Barber Motorsports museum ?

That's a 92 to 96: FJ1200A (with ABS). Probably a 92 because it was dropped from the US lineup in 93.

    Light kit for trunk

That's exactly how a friend of mine was killed. Stopped at a red light behind a vehicle. The SUV behind apparently didn't see the red light or the stopped vehicles and plowed into her at an estimated 60kph. The impact folded the back of the bike up 90° so the passenger backrest struck her neck...

    Light kit for trunk

Glad to hear it. Maybe the build quality was better on the E52 version, maybe it slipped over time or maybe I just got a bad one.

    Light kit for trunk

I have the Givi kit on my V-56, and while I found the idea to be excellent, the execution left a lot to be desired. As documented in this thread I am not the only one to have problems with intermittent connections due to poor design and vibration. I like not having to worry about plugging in...

    Leather Jacket Alterations near LA

We are talking about motorcycle jackets here, right??? I expose mine to both at every opportunity! <lol> Merry Christmas all.

Would you pay the Dealer or Replace ABS brake lines Yourself?

Yes. On both counts. :D The Dutch, traditionally a trading nation, developed a reputation as being tight with a guilder. But also a reputation as engineers and builders -- heck, a quarter of the nation's landmass is below sea level. A pretty impressive accomplishment when you consider my...

Would you pay the Dealer or Replace ABS brake lines Yourself?

It may not be as far out of line as it seems at first blush. There's a lot of lines to change with the ABS system and SS braided lines are not cheap, the routing is buried and the required bleeding is extensive. That said, I'm Dutch so I'd do it myself. Edit: Spiegler's website lists the 8 ABS...

2007 waits until water pump failure doesn't create a disaster

Most Japanese waterpumps are similar in design concept and requirements, so you are probably OK. A little research on the specific product you used might be in order though. Silicates were used as a waterpump bearing lubricant and sealant in older North American vehicles, but have an abrasive...

2007 waits until water pump failure doesn't create a disaster

FWIW: silicate formulations are fine on an older domestic V8, but not compatible with the FJR. Use only a silicate free antifreeze in these bikes to prolong the life of the waterpump.

2007 waits until water pump failure doesn't create a disaster

The elephant in the room is "What have you been using for antifreeze?" My son has my '03, 330,000 kms or more. Been through 2 waterpump seals, never seen that kind of corrosion!

More RPM vs speedo but different...maybe

I have a helmet with bluetooth connectivity to music, phone and rider. Works with any bike. I have grip heaters that can be applied to the bars under any grips. I come with built-in adaptive cruise control but added a throttle lock to ease the tension on the actuator mechanism on long rides...

    Windscreen shimming

What year is your FJR? Yamaha played with different angles and different mountings in different years. For example, Yamaha changed the arms from 2003 to 2004. The replacement arms tipped the windshield back 5°, reducing the overall height but bringing it closer to the rider. A popular mod at...

    E15 / Unleaded 88 in 2008 FJR1300

Ok, since we are wandering off topic a bit here: An interesting study published on ieecars.com looked at the cost of various vehicles based on purchase price and reliability to rank them by cost of ownership per mile for the remaining estimated lifespan. While foreign marks did tend to dominate...

    E15 / Unleaded 88 in 2008 FJR1300

Just to clarify: I was referring specifically to an engine design and tune specifically aimed at taking advantage of E85's strengths, and a price specific to the end user of E85. You are correct, it is not a blanket solution or application and the pricing is subject to a lot more factors than...

    E15 / Unleaded 88 in 2008 FJR1300

Interesting discussion. In point of fact, while E85 has less energy by volume, it can allow an engine -- particularly a boosted engine -- to be tuned to make more power than straight gasoline. If it's dry, correct proportions, etc. etc. That's why it is popular in the racing world. And while the...

    Bike Wont Start

It is possible that a chunk of carbon broke off and jammed a valve partially open. it doesn't take much to lower the compression in that cylinder dramatically. It's also possible that rings can stick as a result of carbon, again, dropping compression dramatically. Did the dealer mention a...

    windshield assembly different?

There are also differences between Gen I arms. 2004 and later lay the screen back 5° further than the original.

More RPM vs speedo but different...maybe

The bike will get it's best fuel economy on the highway in 5th gear, but accelerate to pass best if you downshift. Other than that, the bike doesn't really care -- the torque curve is extremely flat, pulling well at anything over 3,000 rpm; the balancing shaft is very effective. I still...

    US ECU in a rest-of-the-world 2009?

Ross is correct, Ivan flashed my immobilizer-equipped Canadian ECU. During my research before the flash, I came across info suggesting that US ECU's are a popular European import. Possibly to remobilize stolen bikes (not just FJRs).
