    Dunlop Mutant

Let us just say I was not completely shocked by the test results. ;) Personally for use in snow I prefer something with deeper lugs, studs and preferably attached to a 4wd truck.

Oh! I almost forgot: Dunlop's marketing hype of this being a "Mud and Snow" tire? Yeah, maybe not so much:

    Dunlop Mutant

As noted in the other recent tire thread, I did bite the bullet and install a set. But I was unable to find any mention of anyone else trying them on an FJR (or ST1300, Concours, etc.). Most "reviews" are simply parroting Dunlop's marketing literature. Among the few real-world reviews I found...

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

I would say so. In my experience, that's what causes the cupping. Short explanation: I don't think many of us have such a dramatic disconnect between riding conditions. I think most riders have a more homogeneous blend -- ie: there is little we can do to even out cupping because we are...

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

After a bit of experimenting, I've settled on 35F/38R cold (15°C, after sitting overnight). A nice highway run brings the front up to 38psi and the rear to 42 solo with no cargo aboard. Loading a week's worth of groceries into the luggage for the return trip brought the rear to 44psi. Very...

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

I think the biggest change was to the front R6 -- they switched to their "dual CT+" technology from the R5 "dual CT technology" (which the R5 rear already featured). Ultimately it's all marketing speak for something they claim stiffens the carcass for cornering. However, the rears are not...

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

The 6's maybe, but in my experience not the 5's. I regularly wore the 5's down to the wear bars on the sides long before the rears needed replacement. Perhaps if one was to rigorously avoid cornering the wear might be similar but in that case, why ride? <lol>

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

tpms.ca is still the better deal, especially after exchange and shipping.

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

Hey, whatever works for you is fine by me! I only got into this because Ross asked. That said, it's not really that complicated. Check your pressures cold before the ride. Check your pressures warm at a fuel stop (where you are handy to an air compressor anyway). You only need a couple of...

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

That second one is tempting. The first is way overpriced, especially after shipping via UPS to Canada. Maybe next set of tires...

"Toilet seat adapter" <lol> I like that; it does somewhat resemble a toilet seat, but less comfortable! That said, by "more integrated" I mean it fits the metal frame nicely and the profile looks nicer than an adapter bolted to the stock rack with the case mounted. I agree that your naked...

Are Rifle Fairings still in business or gone the way of Bike Bandit?

Proprietor ill/dead maybe? Mind you, it was a 2 man operation at last report. Creditors swept in and seized everything?

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

I think you might be on your own there. Can't say as I've ever seen a guide for those dabbling in the dark arts... <lol> The TPMS was something I always meant to get, but never got around to it. My son gave me one for Father's Day, so the choice of sensors was his. It's nice, compact and very...

Bear in mind that the SR357 also incorporates grab bars, and that some passengers prefer them over the OEM ones. It is an extra expense but is stronger and I think more integrated looking than the E251 adapter plate.

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

Racers typically warm their tires up to 70-80°C with tire warmers for maximum grip, so I'm not too worried about overheating them ;-) Google the "10 20 motorcycle tire pressure rule" -- a commonly used method of fine tuning tire pressure to suit individual needs. Basically, the recommendation...

Are Rifle Fairings still in business or gone the way of Bike Bandit?

What a shame. Rifle was one of the greats just a few short years ago.

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

As a rule of thumb, I adjust the pressures to see a 2-3psi pressure rise over cold in the front and a 5-6psi pressure rise in the rear as a guide to ensure the tires are warm enough for grip. The precise starting pressure depends on load and speed and wet of course, but in this case I was riding...

TIRES?? What tires are everyone running on their FJR?

My first FJR came with BT-020's. Special version just for the FJR, extra belt in the sidewall, IIRC. Loved them, went through a few sets. Mileage wasn't great by today's standards, maybe 10 - 12,000km on the rear, 15 or 16,000kms on the front IIRC. But they were discontinued and replaced by the...

Intermittent fault, loss of power, acceleration error, gen 1

It certainly sounds like it is not adding fuel when you open the throttle. If it happens again, I would immediately (after pulling over) put it in Diag mode and check the TPS values as you twist the throttle to verify smooth and consistent readings. While there, I would also verify that the...
