Without a doubt!!! The sliders, well, at least the right one SAVED the entire right side of the bike. If I had the left hand slider in good condition, the trip to the dealer and ins. co. may have been avoided altogether!! Get LONG Frankenstein sliders!!!!

Both the front and rear tires show indications that they slid equally. I honestly don't remember what happened first. I think the front slid out. I just got back from taking the bike to the dealer and meeting with the insurance inspector. Got a call from the insurance office about 20 min later...

I had exactly the same feeling. I didn't even know it had happened until I had almost stopped sliding. :dntknw:

The sliders I purchased on eBay new for $22. The brand name was T-rex. If the left side slider had stayed on maybe the damage would have been minimal. I had noticed the day before the accident that that slider had cracked on the bottom near the mounting bolt. I thought to myself that I better...

I was wearing the Tourmaster venture "air" pants over jeans and they were only scuffed on the sitting part. I still cant understand how they came out so good but I think they are still usable. I have doubts about an impact with the knee pad section of them because they have never fit well in...

The corner was a right hander and I had started the turn close to the center line and aimed toward the inside car "wheel track" at the apex. As I approached the apex I believe I was slightly out of the car "wheel track" right where the gravel gets pushed from the car tires. The gravel was...

It was on Mines rd. just south of Livermore about 8mi. I had started on hwy 130 in San Jose and was going north back to Livermore. The ride to that point was PERFECT! The speed at the time the GPS came off of the bike it recorded 43mph and I think that is about correct. The corner is posted at...

I can see your apprehension about going down. If I may, it seems as though most riders will have some negative incident. I am starting to see that both the accident and the knowledge of it may BOTH be good things. 1; If riding were completely safe, every moron on the road would on a motorcycle...

Its funny you mention the GPS. It ended up way down the road and had some scratches on it but, I plugged it in and WOW it worked. The neat thing is when I zoomed the map where I crashed, the bread crumb trail showed the bike going side to side and then a LONG straight line where the bike and I...

    Gravel Devil ate my 07

Well, I have to add my name to those who have succumbed to the evil gravel devil.   Last week while having a wonderful ride on a rural mountain road, I found myself sliding on the ground and watching my beautiful FJR flipping in front of me. It slid on the right side and...

    San Francisco to Santa Monica

Thanks, now thats some good information! I did visit Hearst Castle some years ago but have not been any further south of there. This trip is mostly a cruise of solitude and a break from work. With exception of the recommendations given to me by you and others on the forum, my plan is to just...

    San Francisco to Santa Monica

Ahh.... Now that sounds goooooood! I had thought that Morro Bay might be a good stopping point for food and rest. Thanks for the confirmation. I will indeed stop there on my route and savor the food and sights. The price doesn't scare me so much because I am not driving a cage anymore and the...

    San Francisco to Santa Monica

I finally got some free time to do the PCH to the Santa Monica pier from San Francisco :yahoo: . I have done some research about what might be some good places to stop along the way but, wondered if there were any special places that the FJRS like to go. I will be spending 3days for the round...

    Custom Garmin GPS Mount

I'm not even sure exactly how far it is from the shield to the GPS but, far enough that I have never noticed it with the screen up or down. FJRshanta

    Custom Garmin GPS Mount

Thanks Skoot, I had considered those options for my mount and came to these conclusions; 1) I prefer to not leave the GPS mounted to the bike when I leave. I just tuck it away in my small tank bag and take it with me. I believe it is too tempting just sitting there even if it does lock. 2) I...

    Custom Garmin GPS Mount

Thank you for reminding me. I didn't add the fix for that in my post. On the back of the garmin is a screw that removes the top of the adjustment. Remove that screw and find the slider adjustment. I added 2 pieces of wire to block the adjustment mechinisim and works great!! Photos below...
