Ok, do you "fast shift" or "slow shift"?

Damn it Wheaton, what're you doing changing your avatar? Quit messin' with us! As for shifting: I aim for smooth (my wife likes it smooth!), and as long as it's smooth, the quicker the better.

    Linked Brakes

At the risk of opening another can of NEPRT re: statistics, etc., this might be the time to introduce some actual data from an old thread: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/157537-iihs-study-on-integrated-braking-systems/ We can talk about specific situations all we want (dry vs...

Good Things Come To Those That Wait........

Congrats Skooter! I gotta say that was a cold shot at RFH. Besides, anyone can get a '14 to 23 miles; it's the '15s that like to nap at 22. Enjoy the ride.

Proud Papa of a bouncing baby 2015 ES

Bouncing, huh? Might wanna try a click or 2 on the rear suspension ES adjustment screen and see if you can get that sorted out. Congrats on your new ride, and I hope winter doesn't last too long for you.

    Helmets

I have to disagree with you somewhat, Wemi. While I agree that BT is a relatively short-range thing, I've had decent success with bike-to-bike communication with up to about a Km of separation (a little more than 1/2 mile). Not perfect, but certainly workable if you stay in formation.

Interviewing Strategy - beginning, middle or end?

    Better knowledge than sheep, right?

Interviewing Strategy - beginning, middle or end?

Glad you're looking at the bright side, dc. If nothing else, you got to hear all of us geniuses spout off about interviewing techniques, etc. That's something you just can't buy anywhere!

Hit the kill switch when stuck in traffic

Several good points made here already. For my part, I’ll only kill the engine if I’m sure there’s no safety risk (i.e. all vehicles around me, including at least one or two behind are “good & stopped”). As long as that’s the case and if there’s a reason to shut ‘er down for heat comfort...

    Is the UK Legitimizing Motorcycles?

A short but somewhat interesting article I stumbled across today: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/news/11302999/Rider-safety-tops-the-agenda.html Maybe just a lot of talk, but I found the part about motorcycles reducing congestion to be quite interesting.

    Soft Keys?

Shawn, don't listen to those Yankee know-it-alls. The keys for the Canadian FJRs are definitely butter-soft. I've been very careful with mine but they do bend extremely easily. I suspect they're sourced from a different supplier than the US ones and made with a different (cheap) metal. Glad...

Australian Un-Marked Motorcycles Target Cell Phone Users

Fred: There is research (I won't look it up and cite it unless you insist...) that has shown clearly that there is a fundamental difference in the effects of a telephone conversation in a vehicle (whether hands-free or not) and a conversation with a person beside you in the vehicle. The...

Interviewing Strategy - beginning, middle or end?

/\/\/\/\ You don’t get an offer like that every day! A bit of a distance to ride for it, but still… Okay, back on topic - Good luck to all job applicants and successful candidates!

    Calgary's Worst Driver

That's what got me. 2 or 3 times I thought "okay, she's finally out" only to watch her find a way to get stuck even worse. It's like someone gave her the assignment of getting as hopelessly jammed in as possible. Reminds me of that scene from Austin Powers...

    Canada vs USA?

I'm sure someone will get right on that important hack... as soon as they're done with the 2013 CC limit hack.

    Leaning out/in

Bill: If the physical effort is an issue for you (and it may not be), consider my post above (#30). I know I'm beating that horse to death but really, it was a night-and-day difference for me! I didn't touch the suspension settings or the tire pressures; just the tire change made a huge...

    Leaning out/in

Another idea to consider - up-size the rear tire from 180 to 190 mm: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php/topic/148260-upsizing-rear-tire-to-19055-w-pics/ Makes for about an 11 mm increase in tire diameter. I did this when I put on my T30s. Now, I'm not sure whether it was because of...

    Leaning out/in

Lots of good pointers here but in my experience the most important one and the one with the biggest immediate payoff is what Abercrombie said - turn your shoulders into the turn. All those other things are important too - keeping your head level, counter-steering, brake and throttle control...
