Valve check... Should I leave well enough alone or dig in

Checking them isn't too bad. When you need to adjust is where it really gets interesting.

    Enlarged Fifth Gear ?

Our state highways around here are 70. The Interstates are 80. On my Gen II I haven't felt a need for a taller gear. The bike will happily cruise for hours at 4-5000rpm. Took a couple day trips years back with some guy from Kelowna that swore he almost never used 5th on his FJR b/c he...

Valve check... Should I leave well enough alone or dig in

Didn't do my first check until 45K, went through all good, 2nd to last one I checked was on the edge tight, last one was out of spec. Went from a relatively simple but time consuming job to something I wouldn't have done without my brother-in-law who is a whiz at all things mechanical. Got it...

Thinking of selling; price check please

I'm in the same boat as may others on here: 93K on my '08, runs like a top. Should cross the 100K mark this summer, then value to anyone else will be ≈ 0. I bought it brand new and will depreciate it completely. An '08 with low mileage like OP's bike is a tremendous value for someone, as it...

    1993 Yamaha GTS 1000 w/ extras in FL $3,500

Very cool bike. Remember one here new in the showroom sitting around they couldn't sell. I had no $ back then. Yamaha showing off some serious engineering on that. How does the front end feel when riding? Just curious... Also, does it feel lighter or heavier than the FJR when riding?

    Erratic LCD Display

If that turns out to the the answer that is pretty hilarious. The instantaneous is the one I watch in the middle of NV when I'm sure I won't make it to the next gas station. Going into a full tuck and keeping around 55mph definitely bumps up the # on that reading...

    WeSTOC 23 - Baker City, OR - August 27 - 30, 2018

You won't like riding across Idaho to get to Baker City. The road (lolo pass) is very twisty and follows a river through the wilderness. Highway 21 through Stanley and Idaho City has the same problem. I'd suggest you head south to I-80, then take a right at Winemucca to avoid this state...

    WeSTOC 23 - Baker City, OR - August 27 - 30, 2018

Thanks for the explanation, I might consider hitting the first part.... Baker City is less than 6 hours from me if I burn the 84 slab, which is 80mph all the way to OR.

Looks like fun and is a great ride from my hometown there through central ID, but those dates are tough as it's a monday through thursday.... Any reason you didn't hook it onto a weekend?

    One week - now parked

9 degrees here this morning with freezing fog. Not ideal for riding, I get my adrenaline rush just making the walk across the parking lot I won't complain about this year though as I took a nice ride thanksgiving day morning and saw 63 degrees.

Trouble down shifting on the Gen3

Dale, how did it make you feel when you stalled the bike leaving the driveway? Did any neighbor kids laugh at you? Did you yell any obscenities in your helmet? Inquiring minds want to know....

    Finally scratched the itch

You know there's an old saying about the two happiest days in a boat owner's life: The day they buy the boat, and the day they sell it My only boat right now is a Hyde Drift boat and I'll never sell it (similar to this:)

dct. vs AE Is it worth the new technolgy.

Just get an electric bike and skip the transmission altogether.

    Lift Stands for 2014 FJR

Agreed that jacking up from under the headers with a wood block works fine; I always do it with an empty tank to save the 40 or so extra pounds of fuel from having to be lifted.
