So, I Ran Out of Gas...

Finally got 6 gallons in mine yesterday. 64 miles on the count-up odo, the whole way on reserve was mostly 3rd and 4th gear heading up and over Lolo Pass. Nothing better than a nice hot day on a windy road and an empty fuel tank. Bike definitely feels more nimble without 40 pounds of fuel...

    Harley + Ducati ?

HD is a business. Everyone makes the mistake of thinking that better technology / better motorcycles = company success. Not so. Sales are what count. From a business point of view, still selling ancient tech for top dollar is a great strategy. If they want to by Duc it's just going to be a...

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

To add another data point. I just refueled with 64 miles on the count-up reserve odo. Bike took 5.85 to fill. Thought I might finally get over 6 gallons in. I'm going to stop stressing when the count goes over 30 like I used to.

    Road Rage..Motorcycle vs Auto

A reminder for us all. Whenever you're in SoCal watch the news. They have the hottest reporters and sleeveless tops are worn year round.

Weighted bar ends - no longer looking

I put on a set of manic salamanders years ago and like them a lot. Looks like they may be out of business now. I mainly liked the extension for a place to rest my right hand when using cruise. The do smooth things out too, pretty heavy. If you can find a used set i'd recommend. Mine look...

    Rear Wheel removal issue

Harbor Freight has a cheap set of bigger size allen sockets that includes a 14mm. Put that on a good size socket wrench and try rotating while tapping with the hammer to see if it will break loose. I'd feel better about putting some serious force into trying to twist the axle vs pounding the...

    Utah/Arizona Trip Plan Help Please.....

Watch weather / elevation when you're there. Bryce is a definite must see but is also near 9,000 feet. Zions is awesome for scenery. Lodging can be very scarce around those areas, and especially around Grand Canyon even in October. This is a great place to stay: https://www.rubysinn.com/

    August total solar elcipse

We're expecting over 500,000 visitors in the Idaho Falls area, it's been a big deal here. Half the town has rented out their houses. Farmers are setting up camping sites in fields. It's gonna be a ZOO

    Rear wheel bearing

Since we're throwing out some empirical data points, 85K on my bike I've owned since new and bearings are fine. Agree that keeping a pressure washer away is a good idea, those things are bad news around seals. Hopefully one of those parts that will outlive the motor

Yamaha--Stepping Up with New Features for LD Riders!

Not my style, but pretty impressive bike and I'm guessing if you rode with the HD crowd and showed up on that there would be some serious envy. A lot of really cool features, probably a great 2 up touring bike.

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

I've gone at least 60 on the count up and have never been able to get 6 gallons or more in at fuel up. I think at 60 I put in 5.8. If the tank is really 6.6 then by my calculations I'd have at least 100 miles on the count up. One day I'm going to have someone follow with a gas tank and see...

    Carbon Monoxide and Harleys

Never ending stories of HD's, but just a few days ago here https://www.eastidahonews.com/2017/05/two-locals-airlifted-hospital-thrown-motorcycle/ That "formation" they ride in (side by side sharing a lane) is just about as stupid and dangerous as anything you can do....

All the miles out of this tire

As my tire change guy told me once, "be careful, you wore that one right down to the air...."

    Nicky Hayden

The updates are not good. Crazy that he makes it through wheel to wheel racing at 200+ for a career then has this injury. Reminds me of Michael Schumacher suffering a major brain injury skiing after he retired from F1. Very sad.

Looking for suggestions. Leaving L.A. for 2-4 (maybe 5) days in early Aug.

DO watch your weather forecast. Snow can still happen this time of year at elevation -- we're supposed to get 2 days of it this week above 6,000 feet. Bryce Canyon for example is 8,000-9,000, and of course the passes in CO get way up there too.

Looking for suggestions. Leaving L.A. for 2-4 (maybe 5) days in early Aug.

There's a lot of great riding you could put together in that 4 days. I'd suggest adding in HWY 12 from Torrey UT south as part of your route, and check out Bryce and Zion's parks in UT if you've never been there.

Glacier going to the sun is open

I never realized the elevation was so low on that pass --- 6,646 feet. Interesting.... Beartooth is 10,947.
