Why did you/they sell the FJR 1300?

I just sold my 06' FJR & picked up a new BMW 1200 GS on-off roader today. The beemer is me. Ugly and utterly essentialist. No ocean of pretty plastic all over the damn place, just metal beams and tonnes of suspension. Darn good power & the BMW tranny 'clunk' is GONE. Shifts like my old Suzuki...

    '06 - Bike heat report in 106F, 25% humidity

Wanna buy a 06' ,under 500 miles on it ?Free replacement windshield. My wife & I like to explore dirt roads on tours. Just rode 20 miles of forest roads near home on the FJR. DAMN your lower legs get scorched at low speeds! Rode ST1100's on dirt for years. Loved it. Can't believe it but I'm...

    Broken Collar bone

Sparky, did your doc say anything about using cadaver bones(bones from a dead guy) instead of your hip bones? My doc is a doc for one of our olympic teams & he did mention cadaver bones to me.

    Broken Collar bone

Harvey,I'm going to look up the dirtrider.com "broken collarbone club". Was dirt riding yesterday on a steep, DEEP dust trail when the tire lost traction ,the bike spun & I flew off downhill. Seemed like forever I watched the ground come up to my face.Helmet hit 1st,no pain. Was sorta...

Proper procedure for pillion mount and dismount on FJR

like the axeman said. Have her signal she's ready to get on. You signal her back that you're ready(feet planted, aware of any angle &or gravel YOUR feet are on). Then she gets on,SMOOTHLY and relatively slowly, hopefully. Same when she gets off(the bike).

    Passing of Ron Melton

Funny how you get to like a guy just from his writings. Larry Grodsky was "Rider"magazine's safety columinist for years and I read him for years and learned a lot---including to like Grodsky a lot.Fine fellow. He was recently killed in Texas.Hit a deer. Felt like I lost a brother. Same with Ron...

    FJR1300A - BMW K1200GT - HONDA ST1300 comparo

The cornering & steering precision test they ran is interesting. I had a ST13 and it did track corners very well, but it felt big ,high and fat(to me). This 06' FJR feels more 'planted'in hard cornering and is peachy keen as hell in that dept(for me). Like to try the new beemer.I'd NEVER buy it...

    Motorcycle Personality Test

typical gawddam net *******. go thru all their questions, then to getta answer, you give out personal info. At that point I nuked the dam thing. Am bored after years of sportbikes & sport-tourers.The thrill of asphalt corners is gone. Mite sell my 06' and get a Beemer on-off roader. Everytime I...

    Broken Collar bone

Good news sparky. Get'er fixed. I'm waiting til Fall for surgery.Too much mountain fishin, dirt ridin & road riding tween now & then to pass up.Doc said I'd need about 12 weeks to heal. Can still hike & fish,I think. Then SKI! My busted collarbone isn't bothering me anyway.Went dirt ridin on a...

    Broken Collar bone

thanks. You too.My doc said repaired collarbones are stronger than new. I broke my other collarbone in high school, wrestling. In 2 weeks I was doing a few gymnastics. But that was long ago. You might consider surgery & then forgettabout. Lots worse can happen to a guy. GOOD LUCK !

    Broken Collar bone

Broke my collarbone last Oct. 5 months later it hadn't healed(I've had many broken bones over the years and they used to heal fast). After the 5 months, doc told me to go ski, which I did. 10% to 20% of such breaks don't heal. Smoking can effect it as can age & even the degree of violence that...

    Strapping down the '06

I trailered my 06' 2300 miles home from the dealer's. Used canyon dancers---2 of them,4 straps. I only tighten the straps enough to depress bike's suspension a inch or two. On the FJR I couldn't find good points to attach straps to on the back of the bike,so I ran straps from rear wheel "spokes"...

    Dumb Move?

scrapeape, I'm cheap. I bought my new bride a new Honda Civic---the fancy sporty one(if you can imagine such a thing).Gets near 40mpg tho(as I said,I'm cheap). She won't let me smoke in it. I thank gawd for my old pickup. It's got nicotine stalactites hangin from the ceiling. She did quit bitchin...

    Ok all you Californians.....

groo, I crossed Texas in April on I-10. They had a huge pavilion built along the interstate & pulled ALL traffic off the highway & thru the open pavilion looking for illagals,I guess.Never heard of it before. Felt weird, sorta like I was in a foriegn country. Didn't like it much. But if it...
