    Why are people so rude?

There is nothing subjective about his claim I was 4" from him (he actually showed me with his hands). I was not within 4' of him, let alone 4". But you're right, I'm sure he saw it differently. Perhaps I got to close to his ego. Jeff While not a high miler, I also ride a bicycle on surface...

    Why are people so rude?

Is it because there's more of us? Is it because it's becoming acceptable to be nasty to people - almost expected? I'm driving in today, pass by this bicyclist over on the right of my lane, with plenty of room. I stop at a light, and I hear this screaming. I look over, and he's next to my car. I...

    IBA email

My checked cleared today (sent end of July) for anybody keeping track. Good to see some movement there! Jeff

    IBA email

FWIW, I touched base with Ira regarding this email, and this was his response: "The email indicates that the ride is in the system and has passed preliminary review. After that, the ride goes through the full verification and a final review by Mike before he signs your certificate." So while...

    IBA email

That letter's the acceptance letter? I thought it was just kind of a "thanks for the patience" type of thing. In that case, I guess I'll have to keep an eye on the mail, though my check hasn't cleared yet.... Sweet. Jeff

    IBA email

Luke, Settle in and be patient. I haven't heard anything on mine yet from my ride last July. I received an email last night explaining the cause of the delay and apologizing, and to their credit, they've been very patient and answered my emails very quickly in the meantime, as I...

    Heated Grips Summary

I used to ride a 1982 Yamaha XJ100 Maxim. It had a glitch with the transmission where if you really hammered it in 2nd gear, the gear would pop out or skip. I don't consider myself overly mechanically inclined, but decided I'd try the fix for the transmission. So here I am, bike in the spare...

    Heated Grips Summary

Great summary! Thanks! I asked for the DualStar/HeatTroller combo for Christmas, along with a set of gel grips over the top (going from stock + grip puppies). Jeff James, Don't be afraid - you have an excellent support group here. Wiring diagrams make hooking stuff up look more complex than...

    Shoei seal flaw?

I can't say I've noticed this on my RF-1000, but a lot of times, I have to ride with the shield cracked open a bit because it's the worst fogger I've ever had. Could be because in cold weather I'm using the chin curtain to close it up a bit. I also switch faceshields between clear and tinted...

    Heated gloves vs. heated grips

There are bulkier heated ski gloves out there for about $25. They run on 4 "AA" batteries. While I'm really tempted to try them, they're not leather, so there's little crash protection to be had there. For $25, you save money and wattage on the bike, though I would guess they're not well suited...

    They cashed my check

Congrats! Gives me an idea where they are too! I turned mine towards the end of July and haven't heard/seen anything just yet. Jeff

    Heated gloves vs. heated grips

I did a search for them in Google. There's a decent number of reviews out there. A lot of people really like them (especially if they have multiple bikes). A lot of people don't like them. Looks like the switch is in a stupid place too, too close to the power end of the wire. In my case, with a...

    Heated gloves vs. heated grips

Those are similar to the things I've seen on the police cruisers, only theirs appear to be fleece lined and go farther up the arm (closer to the elbow).

    Heated gloves vs. heated grips

Interesting that you and tripletango gave opposite answers. =) My thoughts on the grips are that it is the outsides of my hands facing the breeze, not the inside. I was mulling over the Widders since they're a little less costly, vs. the "no name" grips.... What kind of gloves are you using?

    Heated gloves vs. heated grips

Hopefully not a duplicate topic. Getting ready to make a list for Santa, and trying to decide between heated gloves or heated grips. The gloves are more or less plug n' play, but are more costly than the generic heated grips posted on the forum in the past... *Mostly* for commuting, but if I...

    Hell's Canyon Ride

Guys, I'm sorry I've been MIA. I have to apologize, but I cannot make this ride happen right now. My wife injured her back, and with a little one running around, I have to tend to both of their needs. Today we also found out her grandmother is in the hospital, so my hands are full for the...

    Hell's Canyon Ride

I'm sorry, it's not dead. I didn't see your message. I've PM'd with Bill a couple of times on the side because this thread was not overly active. I've been crazy busy with 100 different things and don't have a lot of time to spend on the board at the moment. The dates are 16th - 18th (Sat -...

    Engineers not Mechanics

Big mistake for me to jump in to ANY conversation related to engineering, chemicals, etc. #7 is vanilla (methyl ether of protocatechuic aldehyde) C8H8O3 is vanillin, which, from my anal officemate, is apparently chemically identical. Apparently Cook's Illustrated magazine ran a test and found...

Any Yamaha XS/XJ 1100(any model) Yamaha riders on this forum?

I had a 1982 XJ1100. When I got my FJR, I didn't spend much time on the XJ, so I sold it. Great bike, a little cranky to start up, but always ran like a champ.
