Can any mods change the subtitle of this thread for me? Change the "Date TBD" part to "Saturday, August 19, 2006" please. Thanks!

    Hell's Canyon Ride

Official placeholder for a Hell's Canyon ride in September. Was mulling over making it a 3 day ride (Friday or Monday to be added to the weekend). One day out, one day to leisurely ride the canyon, one day back. I am currently leaning towards doing it in two days since it's not THAT far away...

    PNW Cheap Gear

Stopped by my local stealer the other day for an air filter. Action Motorsports in Fairview, Oregon. They had their end of season clearance going on. Saw some Joe Rocket and Field Sheer mesh for $99 or less.... looked like some good deals. If you happen to be in the NW, may be worth swinging...

interesting site...just not sure what it is trying to say..

It would be interesting to see accident causes in there. One they list for Seaside, Oregon was a guy who had a few drinks, hopped on his Triumph and met Mr. Guardrail. Those, we can all avoid. The ones we can't are where cages blast over the centerline, or cause a chain reaction accident that...

    DIY Seat Modification?

I don't have any experience with this directly, but you need more than just a gel pad. You want to cut down the foam under your rear, and add some in the back to spread your weight around, and get some pressure off the sit bones (yes, there is a term for them, but who cares?). The gel may give...

    Saturday Ride

I'm not intimidated by Valks - if they get too far ahead, I catch up when they stop for gas. :D It looks like it's been in the upper 40s/low 50s overnight out there, upper 90s in the day, so right now, it's similar to here. We'll just have to suck it up and schedule it and see what happens, I...

    Saturday Ride

Not determined, but the ride after breakfast right now looks like it may be: Astoria, via back roads, into WA, up the coast, back across the valley towards St. Helens... Appears to be 10 Valks at the moment, and my lonesome FJR...

    Saturday Ride

I have a riding buddy/coworker/friend moving away from the Northwest to the East Coast, and he's doing his last PNW ride this upcoming Saturday. He rides a Valk, so there's likely to be several members of the Valkyrie group along, also possibly a Moto Guzzi. HOPEFULLY, I'm not the only FJR in...

    Butt-burn!!

A big part of it is the seat. The convex shape of the stock seat does not play nice with the covex shape of a butt. By building up the back of the seat and cutting down the main part, custom seats spread the support around so more work is being done by your "padding" rather than just sitting on...

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

I was wearing Cortech Mesh on the way down, with solid panels over the knee area. 677 miles from Portland to San Jose, and had light burns when I got to San Jose regardless. My point was that it was more the ambient temperature than the bike just roasting me. I've never gotten burned by it...

    Butt-burn!!

I no nothing about how Sargeant handles their seats, but the idea of the custom is to spread the support around. Get more of the sides of your butt and hips to support you, instead of just your "sit bones." I also don't have a lot of padding, but the upright position works well for me with the...

    Side bag removal

+1 on aligning the bottom of the bag with the tab on the bike. Very easy and fast for off/on. I give mine a test lift once they're on to make sure they're seated right. Not interested in having one take off on me.

    Butt-burn!!

Was that any type of ride in, or no? I got mine redone via a ride in at Rich's in Seattle, and reeled off 700 miles, 500, 0, 200, then 1100 on consecutive days. I'm not going to say I didn't feel it, but it wasn't severe discomfort like I had on the stocker when I had to stop every hour. Also...

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

    > BFD? 130? the thermometer musta be in direct sunlight laying on the pavment as I checked for recorded > temps that high and found none. My thought on this leans more towards the heat from the roadway than heat > from the bike. :o Weather.com has since corrected their listing to...

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

I like to ride it right now. As I said, it's never been a problem in the past on short rides, and I don't have any longer ones planned that may result in additional burns, so just not a real high priority. If it happened every time I rode, I'd have a problem, but that was the first time, and the...

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

If you fill a pot will boiling water, would you touch the outside of the pot? Last Sunday was the first time I rode all day, and it was in the crazy heat in California. Never had that kind of heat before. However, at one stop, the gas was boiling. I have a metal container with boiling fluid in...

Is there an easy heat fix for the 05?

Long pants are no help. I had on jeans during my SS1K last week and got 1st degree burns, with blisters where my legs contacted the tank. FWIW, I also wore mesh on my way down to San Jose, and after 700 miles, had light burns on my legs as well. They didn't hurt - didn't even know until I...
