Audiovox is da bomb. Little frustrating to install, but FAR less frustrating than $300+ worth...

    Too Damned Hot!

Did it dry out there any? The humidity was so bad on Sunday, my vest didn't do crap. Or maybe it did and I couldn't tell.

+1 on the water, or better still, Gatorade.

    SS1K Success!

EDIT: Just saw the weather forecast for this weekend in Portland. 77 glorious degrees. I wish everybody safety and success. Drink lots of Gatorade. I started with Propel, but that didn't work. Much better luck with the Gatorade.

    SS1K Success!

There's probably people far more qualified than me to give advice. However, here's a few things that I think helped me (YMMV): 1) Custom seat (obviously) 2) Camelback in the tank bag. Didn't have to stop to get a drink when I got thirsty (in the heat especially, this saved my bacon (mmmm...

Don't know, but it won't be in the heat.

    Thunderstorm Wreaks Havoc

That sucks, sorry to hear it. I always worry about my bike blowing over in a stiff wind - all that tupperware makes a nice sail.

    Oregon to California

I was hitting 90 in Santee by 8 - 8:30am the days I was there, so I assume the better part of the day was spent > 100. I didn't stay long in Castaic, Firebaugh, or Redding, which were the 3 stops that broke 110. I got little relief from the heat until almost 10pm. It cooled off when the sun...

    SS1K Success!

 There's an episode of the Simpsons where Homer's running a marathon and dehydrates in to his father until he gets some water.

I didn't feel safe doing that on the side of the highway in the dark, and by the time I got to the next exit, it had gone out.

Thank you. Brave, or stupid. <_< I had to get home one way or the other. Sitting in traffic on Monday and Tuesday was not going to work for me. On the way down Thursday, I got a taste of a 39 mile long backup in LA. Live and learn, I guess.

    SS1K Success!

Holy smokes what a ride! Talk about a LONG day. Had everything loaded on the bike the night before - was staying with a friend, and he was going to get up early with me to ride a bit on the way out. Set my cell phone alarm for 4:25 to be on the road by 5am. At 4:50am, my buddy bangs on the door...

    Oregon to California

I'll post details tomorrow, but I did it!! 1100 miles in one day. SCORCHING temperatures forced long fuel breaks for me. Left Santee around 5:30am, and I'm home now at 12:30am. Need to get my paperwork together and send it in now... Good to be home

    Oregon to California

I have a CamelBack in my tankbag. I'm going to grab some Propel too, I think to keep some electrolytes coming in. I also have my cooling vest with me. While it's not a phase change, it helps big time. I tried to find one of the next cuffs that does the cooling as well, but no love at the local...

    Oregon to California

You ever been down here? It's a DESERT! Unfit for human living. So hot.... :dribble: It's the first time I've ever felt like I was actually riding through an oven. We went over to the coast for a bit tonight - very pretty (and trophy women abound!). Going to do a little sight seeing...

    Oregon to California

I'm currently in Santee (near San Diego) visiting a friend of mine. I have a newfound respect for my FJR (and my Rich's seat!) after two long days. First day was just shy of 700 miles, Portland to San Jose. Yesterday was another 500 or so - across 17 out to 1, then down the coast highway through...

    Accu-Pressure Tire Caps

I already have a RoadGear digital gauge with a 90 degree neck on it. Tested really well in a review done by one of the rags (meaning it was accurate). I certainly wouldn't stop checking pressure, just seemed like they may have been a good idea for an eye check while looking over the bike before...

    Accu-Pressure Tire Caps

Anybody use these? They seem like a good idea for a quick check of tire pressure. Wondering how they work in the real world... https://www.accupressurecaps.com/

    audiovox servo placement on 06

I initially had mine under the seat, but my seat wasn't easily clipping on, and I like to have that spot for spare bits and pieces, so I attached it to the saddlebag hanger on the left (started on the right since all my wires were all there, but that was a mistake). Bag goes on, there's tire...
