    How does $109/yr sound?

    Volcano Ride II

Sorry to hear it, but thanks for the update... I figure I will revisit this and pick a date post WFO.

Sounds good. Thanks for following up. I'm looking forward to that one...

Autocomm or similiar? What do you use? Earplugs?

It's been a while since I checked, but IIRC, Autocomm suggests getting their volume control if you wear earplugs so it can crank the volume up. Another option (and the way I will go eventually) is an adapter Autocomm sells so you can use your own earphones. With a set of Etymotic or Shure's...

    Pillion view?

I just talked to my wife about it. She's also 5'8". Imagine my surprise when she told me she stares at the back of my helmet. :o Must have been a long ride from Portland to San Fransisco a couple of years ago. I asked her if she just leans to one side and looks over my shoulder, and she...

    Pillion view?

Is she considerably shorter than you are? I'm 6'1", also 200, and my wife is a few inches shorter, but she's never mentioned not being able to see forward.

    Mt. Hood Loop

This Saturday, a couple of FJRs are getting together to take a spin around Mt. Hood. We'll meet up at 9am at the Airport Way Best Buy. We'll roll up 205 to 14 in Washington, then down 14 E to Bridge of the Gods ($ .50 toll). After crossing the bridge, we'll hop on 84E for the short ride to Hood...

    Garmin 2730 XM

Yes. I've used both cheapo foam units as well as some more expensive (relatively speaking) Hear-O's. I feel like I get more noise reduction with the Shures, but it could be my imagination. The Shure's will give 30-37db sound reduction depending upon the insert you use (they come with various...

    Garmin 2730 XM

The Touratech mount and stemstand are separate, and I believe CycleGadgets also has the AMPS pattern adapter plate separately. I believe almost any mount can be forcibly removed if someone wanted the unit badly enough. The sight of locks are probably a deterrent to a quick grab. The stem stand...

Stem stand with a Garmin mount. I have the locking Touratech as well, but haven't put it on just yet.

    Garmin 2730 XM

Excellent - I'm going to grab that right now. I've told my wife a couple of times they should have put an icon on the map page to get to the music player. I was telling my wife this morning that Jane (or Rachel Hunter - hey I can dream) has a lot of fans on the forum. She doesn't get it though...

    Garmin 2730 XM

+1 It's hard at first not to watch the GPS in action, and with the MP3 player and XM, there's that much more stuff to compete for your attention.

They're easy to add. Plug the 2730 in to the computer, and drag and drop in USB Mode. It's basically a folder view. Also does audio books if you prefer to listen to one of those while you ride. I actually find myself wishing it supported WMV files. My regular MP3 player does both, and the WMVs...

    Cooling vests

Based on my first usage of the evaporative cooling vest I got, yes, it works, and it's not much hassle, and doesn't take up much space when it's dry. Can't speak to the phase change, but I've read they work well - I just went the cheapo route this time.

    Garmin 2730 XM

Does it all at once. There are separate volume controls for the voice prompts and the XM, so you can make one louder than the other if necessary. It handles both very well. I usually turn on the radio, then hit the map button to keep track of where I'm going. If I need to adjust the radio, I...

Throttle Body Sync ... It's that time again!

My brilliant mastery of planning has me visiting a friend in San Diego over that weekend, so I'm SOL for that one. :blush2:

    4th of July BBQ

If any fellow FJR Pilots find themselves with time on their hands tomorrow, you're welcome to swing by my place for some slow cooked, hickory smoked BBQ. I'll have ribs (both plain dry rubbed, and some new Vodka marinade I'm trying), shredded beef, pulled pork, and a chicken. Usually start...

    Garmin 2730 XM

You may get a few (good) surprises with the traffic. Portland, Oregon does not appear on their list of currently supported traffic cities, but I do get traffic reports on my 2730. I know they're expanding all the time, so maybe it caught up to our little town. The Boneyard (ch. 41 I think) is...
