    FJR as a tow vehicle!

Search for "trailer" you will find alot of info. In particular: Trailer Thread Go down to post #9 and you'll see pics of my rig. Works great. The hitch stays on, but I've never found it a problem. The whole rig certainly helps on the longer trips when your on the road for a couple or more...

Replacing cam chain - remove ignition rotor?

Okay, a bit of an update. I succesfully started the bike this weekend. :yahoo: Woohoo!! :yahoo: Which means that yes, I did get the timing right. (I was pretty sure I had gotten it right, but hearing it start right up and run as smooth as when it was new again is very reassuring) The...

Replacing cam chain - remove ignition rotor?

Just did this job myself over the past couple weeks. Yes you need to remove that plate. Just bite the bullet and pull the stator cover on the other side of the engine. Then all you need is a wrench on the nut on that side to hold the crank from turning. I'd be leary of an impact driver...

    Dollar Exchange Rate

I'll second that. My original posting was not in any way shape or form about the politcal issues on either side of the border that has created the environment for this situation to occur. It was about the greed of the businesses exploiting it and how to deal with it. I am sure there are some...

    Dollar Exchange Rate

Well, as most Canucks are now aware, the Canadian dollar is not just at par, but (as I write this) above par at around 1.03 us. To most people of my age or younger this is unheard of. And you would think we would benefit from it, apparently not. Here is a sampling of vehicle prices comparing...

Abs / Linked Brakes / Off Road

It depends on the situation and skill of the rider. But here's a scenario that was recounted to me from someone who was in an LD Rally. Rider was aboard a BMW R series bike but not the GS model. Bike had ABS and traction control but no disable switches. The bonus was at the top of a steep...

    Trailers Permitted In Ibr?

I have considered the very same question myself. I've never seen them used, but I have read the rules and do not remember anything prohibiting them. Personally I run a more conventual Bushtec trailer. Two wheels so you dont have to "Balance" the weight in the trailer. In fact, by packing all...

Some Interesting New Bikes With Automatic Transmissions

I've never really done the CVT thing myself on any of my vehicles. But I know it is a technologie that a fair bit of R&D has gone into over the years. Alot of people don't realize that the Nissan Murano (Middleweight SUV with a 3500 lb tow rating) is a CVT transmission. I talked to a guy who...

Cdn$ Vs Us$ - Are Fjrs Cheaper Up North?

No they are not cheaper up here. But they are an absolute bargain for us down there right now. Just looking at list prices for a 2008 "A" model here are the prices: US ==> 13,899 CDN ==> 19,099 Some years ago when the exchange was 70cents or event 80 cents this almost made sense...

The New Motorcycles: Bigger, Faster, Deadlier

As gleaned from another thread. Here's a link to the actual IIHS report. Very interesting reading. IIHS Report What I find most interesting about this whole situation (both the IIHS report and the media reports that have been based on it) is that they have _ALL_ focused on the issue of these...

    2008 CFR

Probably. I think a good number of this years CFR attendees are on there way to EOM This weekend. Will obviously need to give this thread a few weeks to a month to ferment before any final answers could come out. This will ramble a bit. Some items will seem self-evident but are worth...

    EOM Speed Trap

Here's a bit more info: Summersville Speed Trap Interesting read, The article is a few years old but it fills in some of the blanks for me. I remember seeing that billboard in the area on many of my trips through there. I always thought it was some guy from out of town who was pissed he got...

    Rally TShirts

I just thought I would drop a line to mention that everyone who ordered TShirts followed through and bought them. We only had one person who could not pick up their Tshirt in person but they arranged for someone else to pay for them and pick them up.  :thumbsup...

    CFR 2007 Wrapup

On Thursday morning FJRPierre and CanadianFJR arrived at my place and we had a great ride across to the rally. Warm temps and clear skies the whole way. Thursday evening was spent around the back reclining on the Muskoka Chairs and enjoying each others company. On Friday Torch took a small...

    SS1000 Route

If your just trying to go for a fun ride. This looks great. However, if you are trying for a formal SS1000 cert then I think your route has 2 problems. The first problem (as already mentioned) is the fact that the non-slab roads (Blue ridge parkway, deals gap, etc) are not particularly good...

    Yamaha Dealers

What work do you need done? Or is this just a precaution? I think there is 1 shop in the area, but thats it. (Dont know who or where they are myself). There are more shops in the Toronto or Ottawa area. Since your travelling from the east coast the Ottawa area might be a better bet since...
