    HEY I'M THE BIRTHDAY BOY

kaitsdad is right on -- the hardest thing for me about turning 50 last year was darn AARP people floodin my mailbox with stuff !! hey - like i wanted the constant reminder of the big 50  ..... and yes, finally, after about 6 months of their outrageous persistant behavior i broke...

    Avatar

Ahhhhh ---- that Warchild is wise beyond his years. Here we thought his wisdom was contained only within the motorcycle world -- and yet. he has correctly identified the lovely lady as Brittanay Spears (prior to prego). I am now even in more awe of the Big W..... :o Jay

    Gonna Go Pick it UP

Be sure to check around on the insurance - apparently many companies rate this bike differently. I ended up at GEICO for about $50 bucks a month. It varies by state, your age, etc. But I found BIG differences in quotes. The bike is great -- hot at times, maybe -- unbearable, absolutely...

    Question on helmets

Primary helmet is a Shoei RF 1000 "Voltage" -- good sight to check out is www.tonker.com the blue is almost a deat match for the 05 fjr. I wear this year round -- on hot days the windshield is down all the way, and i might leave the flip shield cracked one notch. Coming from a cruiser...

    Radiator Cover Guard

Please forgive the stupid question from a FNG -- how important is a radiator guard on this bike?? Good to have? Or more like "mandatory" :( ie; sooner or later something will puncture the radiator? Have 05 with only 2k miles on her. Thx, Jay

    I did it!

Congrats Pacman! No doubt you will love it -- the waiting is the hardest part (ordered my 05 last November and got it in April) -- but it is WORTH THE WAIT !! :D Sunny and 75 in Virginia Beach today and went for a quick 30 minute spin -- still can't get over the "Smile Factor" i...

This bike is saving my marriage!!

Its funny -- when i casually mentioned to my wife (2nd wife) that i was thinking about getting a bike (after 20 years of no bike) she uttered something to the effect of, "over my dead body". So i thought about it for a few seconds, and bot the bike the next day. Was she pissed? Absolutely...

    Mileage Check

Took delivery of my 05 in April and just crossed 2,000 miles -- far far too few miles on this great ride. Will ride a bit all winter (Virginia Beach climate always gives us some decent days) and vow to spend less time at work and on the golf course in 06, and more time atop this blazing blue...

    Battery Charger

At the risk of sounding uninformed (ie; stupid....and still a "FNG"...) if you can ride once a week (or at least every other week) during winter, even if just for 15 minutes, is it still a good idea (or necessary) to have a charger?? :( Thanks, Jay

    First Blue Ridge Parkway Trip

Thanks Galaxy5 -- hope to get back to BRP in spring -- all reports suggest its a great ride and worth the 4 hour trek (for me). I was severly disappointed we couldn't ride it this time -- however it was still a great 2-day excursion. And the ride down Afton Mountain was worth the entire...

Any Info On The Best Front And Rear Tire Pressure?

Just did a 600 mile two-day ride and adjusted them to 40/40. Felt great at that number. Usually check them once a week --- went beyond that once and the front had dropped to 28 or so. :o Now I try and make an effort to check them frequently. Cause, you never know ...

Do you always wear a helmet?

Full coverage Shoei at all times. Virgina requires helmets -- but would wear it 100% of time regardless. Ocassionally put it on after a few too many cocktails on the back porch as well.... :D Jay

    First Blue Ridge Parkway Trip

Well, we tried. Left Virgina Beach on Friday morning and headed to Skyline Drive ( in heavy mist and wet roads) only to get there and find 2 feet visibility due to heavy fog -- have to take alternate route which was ok. Next day no change -- entire Blue Ridge Parkway covered with fog...

    Yamaha HQ Order Confirmation;

Don't know if anything has changed; ordered mine from the dealer in 11/04 and never got anything from Yamaha. Come spring 05 and still no word (and the dealer was clueless) I finally called Yamaha (Cypress) and some nice lady there gave me the confirmation and estimated ship date. Showed up...

    Aftermarket Grips

Got my 05 in April of this year and love everything about the bike -- but like many experienced a numbness in my right hand and fingers. Got the Heli risers, Tacki Grips, and a throttle rocker and can say that all of these are a great help. The Tacki grips are a bit "fat", but most seem...
