    Labor Day Plans?

Thinking seriously about doing a bun burner that weekend. Wichita to Oklahoma City, to Albuquerque, to Colorado Springs. That makes about 1100 miles. Then from Colorado Springs to Denver, then across to Salina, that makes about 600 miles. Then come on home. We'll see tho, but that's the...

    Tire On Trip

Ian, are you leaving with a brand new one mounted? I would take off the current one and keep hold of it. Remount it when the other one wears out. I was considering this for my vacation this summer, but since I'm building a trailer to tow behind the FJR, I'm just going to carry new ones with...

    The Eyes Have It!

    Headlight Access

Actually, if you don't have overly large hands, you can reach the bulb plugs without removing a single piece of plastic. Just turn the handle bars from one side to the other to help facilitate access. Otherwise, just read up in the owners manual, it tells how to remove the panels. Good luck...

    Steering Stem Wrench

Ok, where's the best place to buy the steering stem spanner wrench? You know, the one that has the cutout for a torque wrench? TIA! Mike

Joe Rocket Sahara Vest (test) Ride

I actually went the el-cheepo route and bought a Technicke brand cooling vest, $30. Got to try it out today. About 95 or so, definitely works well. After about an hour tho, it started loosing some cooling effect on the front. The sides and back were still working tho. Overall, good stuff! Mike

    Seats..help Me!!

Put another 250 miles on today. It just keeps getting better. When we started this A.M., the back of my thighs would start to hurt after about an hour, not real bad, but a little. By this afternoon, I wasn't noticing it nearly as much. They said it would take 500-1000 miles to break in, I'm...

    Seats..help Me!!

Got my Russell today, FINALLY! Went for a short 50 mile ride. BEAUTIFUL!! They claim they make the seat to aid in proper posture, I'll say. I don't even set that upright in my car! Kinda odd having to slide all the way to the tank before stopping so I can get a foot down. The seat is at...

    Avon Or Metz

Another vote for the Avon 45/46 combo here. These tires are light years ahead of the stock 'stone. I will never, and I mean NEVER purposely put on another 'stone in my life! I had considered the PR's, but I'm thinking now, why mess with perfection? Mike

    Stereo Options?

No to the factory radio. I'm using a Sony mini-disk player, but most here are probably using a MP3 player or Ipod or similar. Mike

    Skyway's Aluminum Replacement Slider

I would think the slider would be up a little too high for mounting highway pegs, wouldn't it? Mike

My Avatar Just Got Put To Sleep

Pets are EXTREMELY hard to let go of once you get attached. I've had to put a couple down in my day, and it's like losing a family member. You have my simpathies and condolences. Mike

    Correct Oil Level?

1 gallon of Rotella T full synthetic and 8 oz of STP blue top honey, puts the oil level right in between the marks. I've gained a little too, but if you do as others have suggested with checking it on the centerstand after running a minute or two, it always runs between the marks. Mike

    Ride In Rain?

I'll normally only ride in the rain when I have to. You know, the weather man missed again? We rode last year in the rain for an entire day, it was miserable. The next day it rained as well, I watched from the motel room window. I've gotta concentrate enough on the road and everyone around...

    Oxtar Boots

Another vote for the Matrix here. Roughly a year in mine and still holding up well. Mike

    Cheap Man's Tuning Block?

What I used was a couple 5/8" plastic spacer and screws bought at the local Ace Hardware store. They've got a TON of hardware stuff in there. Just take one of the old screws and take it with you to match the size and pitch. Just don't forget to add the extra length. Mike

Non Yamaha Oil For The Shaft Drive

What Zorkler said, I've been using since the first service at 600 miles. Good stuff. Mike

    Swingarm Service

So, do you physically pull the bearing out and repack them, or do you just remove the bolt that runs thru them and back the bearing full of grease that way. I'm thinking the latter of the two. Mike

    Swingarm Service

Thanks guys. So is it premature to do it at the recommended 16K? Mike

    Swingarm Service

Thanks, Bounce. I'm going to go ahead and order a service manual finally. How long did it take? I'm thinking I can probably do in a couple evenings of tinkering. Did you go ahead and install the grease zerks like others have, or is it not worth it? Mike
