    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Hmmm…. Isn’t 157 degrees a bit low for poultry? Or do you expect it to carry over cook up to the recommended 165?

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Oh yeah, I did. I sampled one of the cheddars (the Cabot Seriously Sharp). The amount of smoke seems just about right, but at 3 weeks it was still a bit much on the outer surface. I think with more age that will fade and absorb more into the blocks. Looking forward to trying some of the Jack...

Why am I selling the FJR?

So is said English lad going to try to do the IBR this year? That would be pretty awesome. Even if not, just a transcontinental fly and ride is pretty awesome.

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Hey! We had a little snow yesterday. Cleaned it up this morning, so naturally I thought about cooking some pork ribs! I had scored some fresh baby back ribs from the local market (their butchering, not vacuum packed). They were short racks, just right for the three of us to eat tonight...

Why am I selling the FJR?

Wait! Auburn without an FJR in the stable? That would just feel kind of weird. What is this world coming too? Just kidding, of course. We all move on to new things. Best of luck. Enjoy

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Getting back with a rib report. Those St Louis cut ribs were mega-delicious. I’m sure part of it was having BBQ in Vermont winter, we are all starved for those summertime flavors. As you may recall, I took the opportunity to break out my offset during a really warm day last week. The more...

    Throttle body sync

Front spline has no motion in it, under operating conditions. It only needs anti-seize on it so that it can be disassembled. The rear drive-shaft spline is inside the rear hub assembly, and is spring loaded pushing the shaft forward. Any lateral motion of the shaft is taken up in the rear...

Gen II Rear Suspension Bearing Lubrication

Yeah, but I think it was quite a while ago. Either way, Russ is a great guy. And an actual “Rocket Scientist”!

Gen II Rear Suspension Bearing Lubrication

FYI… Snowflake on the FJRiders forum is AKA FJReady on this forum. He made the same post about his zerked out relay arms somewhere on this forum a while back.

You don’t really eat anything off the back side of the ribs anyway. I usually do peel the membrane, but thought I’d give this try. There’s no real right or wrong to it. I’ll let you know what I think when we eat these next week.

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Initially, I was going to try something I saw on the “Mad Scientist” channel. He (Jeremy Yoder, not related to the Yoder pits) encourages cooking pork ribs “Texas Style” with just course pepper and kosher salt. But I didn’t know how my grandson would like those. So I actually did a hybrid of...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Here’s a look at the Walmart pork ribs after trimming. I trimmed the flap on the back that you always get with St Louis cuts, and removed the last bone that had been sawed through with the bandsaw. I also just perforated the silver-skin on the back rather than removing it this time. Really...

    Gps Recomendations

Zumo 396-LMT-S is a no-brainer at $270 new, shipped, from gpscity on eBay.

    Gps Recomendations

The 550 BT is ok, but it is only the hands free profile, so is totally monaural. That’s why I still use the Starcom1 box and wired headsets on the FJR. The 66X series added A2DP profile, which gives you stereo music, but the implementation is crude. On mine, it often switches profiles back...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Our two grandsons are spending their February school vacation with us next week (while their parents are working). The older one has put in a request for some BBQ pork ribs. None to be found in our local market, so I scored two racks of St. Louis cuts at the nearby Wally World. I’ve actually...

Need Throttle Body Assembly Expert Advice

For those in need of throttle body cleaning, I successfully clean my ‘05’s TBs. It was at around 75k miles, as I recall. The only things I used was brake cleaner and an old soft toothbrush. Counterintuitively, brake cleaner is gentler on the rubber bits than carburetor cleaner is. Before...

    Clutch Problem

I believe that this was done by Yamaha in conjunction with having the auto clutch YCCS system. I recall that some second gen owners would swap out their slave cylinders with one from a first gen to make the engagement more progressive and get lighter lever pull.

    Gps Recomendations

Still rockin’ my old zumo 550 on the FJR with wired Starcom headsets. I have a zumo 660 on my Africa Twin because it will display tracks and I can bluetooth connect into the helmet, both of which are nice when off roading. Two years ago I picked up a zumo 396 that now does duty on a Bonneville...

Recovered Paraplegic back in the Saddle after 25 year sabbatical

You have chosen a perfect forum name for yourself. Quite an amazing accident and an even better recovery story.

Gen II Rear Suspension Bearing Lubrication

I think that the drive shaft being inside the rear swingarm eliminates the need for a second pivot joint.
