    altitude sickness

As indicated above, most folks will not have any problems. Perhaps a little headache, but key is to drink lots of WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER WATER And the water drinking should start before one arrives at NAFO -- don't get dehydrated on the way here or you will be more...

    NAFO and Pikes Peak

I live in Woodland Park at the bottom of Pikes Peak -- had never ridden one of my street bikes up there until last summer. Some friends in town on their Gold Wings, but I decided to ride my FJR to the top with them instead of my Gold Wing. Still probably 5 miles of unpaved road, but they have...

NAFO web site - Registration Open Until July 20th

Registered this afternoon -- received hotel code soon thereafter -- hotel booked! Great job folks. I know how much work this is as I organized a Gold Wing gathering in Montrose in July, and doing so again this year in early June. Little more low-key than this FJR gathering, but we do have...

NAFO web site - Registration Open Until July 20th

Just registered and paid. Looking forward to seeing the FJR group out in my neck of the woods. I'm from Woodland Park, 8600 feet, which is about 18 miles west of Colorado Springs on the north side of Pikes Peak. Although I'm not far away (about 75 miles south of Golden), I will be coming up...

Out of state Performance Awards (Speeding Ticket)

I just read this thread for the first time and found it somewhat interesting. For most folks that get traffic tickets in Colorado, it is all about revenue. I did not see a follow-up on what actually happened with this ticket, but normally if you send in the fine the points (in Colorado) are...

    Colorado ride

You might want to check out the rides that I recommend in my signature block. Also, you can do 4-6 days of great riding out of Montrose, including lots of mountains and canyons. I organized a gathering for some of my Gold Wing friends form all over the country last July and we had about 150...

    Great NAFO Roads in CO

Actually, we do a ride each year that we call the "Butt-kicker" -- the ride that you are discussing here. Very doable! Golden > I-70 Eisenhower Tunnel > Copper Mountain > CO-91 > Fremont Pass > Leadville > CO-82 > Twin Lakes > Independence Pass > Aspen &gt...

    Denver rides

Problem is that Denver is a big city with lots of traffic -- much better to lock it in a small place if possible. Montrose on the western slope is a great location. My High Country Cruisers group has been going over there for 4-5 days in August for years. Lots of mountain rides and lots of...

Very sad indeed. Was reading this on the pashnit site also. Enjoy life everyone -- every day is precious!

    Rider Magazine - December 2007 Sport-Touring Shootout

Doubtful that this will happen, but it would be nice. I think the bottom line is that most bikes hve some sort of issue. Unless it is proven (and not just because we think it is) to be a safety issue, it is unlikely that they will replace the old units, but will just work the improvements into...

    Route 3 - West Virginia

Yes, very nice of him to do so on such a beautiful day. Please note that I really enjoyed the ST, but I do have the FJR set up the way that I like it, so that makes a big difference.

    Honda ST1300 vs. Yamaha FJR1300

Just spent a day in WV riding a friend's 07 ST1300 last month. Definitely what I have heard others say. ST is a touring-sport and the FJR is a sport-tourer. Very similar, but enough difference to make me agree with this assessment. It was a cool day on the St, so the heat was not an issue...

    Route 3 - West Virginia

First things first, forgive me for posting the following photo of an ST1300. Now.......... Appreciate seeing the photos from Bridge Day and the mention of Route 3 in WV. I grew up in southern WV and still have lots of family and friends back there. In fact, I was on a car trip back that way...

Is 410 from Enumclaw to 123 to Packwood open?

Highly recommend that you check the MT Raininer National Park web for the current status of roads. Several are closed: Mt. Rainier Nat Park Road Status

    Ride The Divide - Colorado

Yep, that would be a great ride. Although not the Divide, would be even better if you included the Million Dollar Highway (US-550) from Ouray to Durango, and the Delores River Canyon (CO-141) from Whitewater to Naturita. My recommendation on the best Colorado rides is included in my signature box.
