    Concours or FJR

Also, IIRC the "late model" connie takes premium fuel. For a cheap bastage like myself, that's tire money going to waste!!

    Concours or FJR

On the plus side for the FJR: The Connie is heavier than the FJR, and it rides that way - top heavy at low speeds, IMO. The Connie does not have cruise control (this cannot be understated) The Connie does not have heated grips The Connie gets worse gas mileage, and it holds less fuel - range...

Hello from Milwaukee~~I am in over my head and need help please!!

Welcome to the madness.  Agree with Ross and Mac, tires are quite a subjective topic.  My take?  You can't have your cake and eat it too.  The FJR is a big ole heavy pig with a crap ton of torque and if you want to play, ya gotta pay.  She'll eat tires like potato chips, man.  Gobble 'em up and...

Checking valve clearances on a 2007 with 40,000 miles.

Don't want my prior comment to be confused.  I get that some enjoy working on the bike.  When I'm in the right state of mind (weather is too crappy to ride, and I've got nothing better to do), I don't mind it much.  And I think I understand the rationale behind going to the tightest 1/3 of the...

Checking valve clearances on a 2007 with 40,000 miles.

I adjust to the loosest 1/3 of the spec.  I'd rather ride it than work on it.  Use a "go, no-go" feeler gage and don't force it.  If one of valve on the cam is out of spec, then I adjust them all to the loosest 1/3 and that usually does it.  But if it's too loose, then I'm adjusting it.  Yammie...

fork seal replacement / racetech gold valve

Actually, I think I may have mis-typed.  A "Mother-in-law", in "tool terms" is a device that is used to drive in post or pipes into the ground.  Picture a stout piece of pipe closed on one end with a handle on each side.  The user slips the MIL over the post, and using the handle, lifts and...

fork seal replacement / racetech gold valve

I went with the Showa 10 wt (Honda), which is a smidge thicker than stock.  The dampening was significantly improved for me (6'-0", 210 pounds, moderate to aggressive rider). Few tips: 1.  Do not disassemble the fork the way the book tells you (dealing with removing that fastener deep on the...

    Damp Diversion

One day I will visit the UK with my wife.  Maybe even ride a bit in those parts.  Or at the least, enjoy a pint with my friend.....

"I want you to enjoy your bike."

I would submit two things for your consideration.  i don't presume to be holier than thou, just two random thoughts that popped into my head as I read your latest post, and thought about the 14 previous pages that got you here: 1.  In the context of your perspective, you will NEVER be "healed"...

What happened to basic quality control

The drive shaft spline "to lube or not to lube" debate is as old as the FJR.  I'm from the camp of "it can't hurt and it may help, so do it once and forget it". Swingarm bearing failure is absolutely unheard of.  That is a waste of time, IMO - especially if you don't ride in salt covered...

    refrigerators

Unfortunately, I've seen this movie before.  Bottom line is this:  Appliances are NOT what they used to be.  They are disposable, and built that way. Regarding refrigerators, I've given up on ANY model that has the icemaker in the door.  I'm convinced that this design is flawed because no...

SFO 2020 - The Tradition Continues

Make plans to stop in Louisiana on your way - come hungry, come thirsty.  Pants will take care of the rest and we can ride to SFO together.  I know the way!!

    Pulling to the left

Also, check each fork tube and ensure that they are absolutely parallel to each other with respect to their position in the triple clamp. Failing evidence of this or a crash, look Extremely closely at the condition of the front tire - if it is scalloped even in the slightest on one or both...

    fork rebuild question

It should slide freely without much resistance.  I wonder if one or more of your bushings is either improperly installed, or misplaced (upper where the middle goes, vise versa)?  Also - did you buy the seals from a genuine Yamaha re-seller? Regarding having he seal in correctly, if you lift the...

Idiots guide to riding deals gap.

This is the problem with the Dragon. Thank heavens there are FAR better roads in that region (too many to even count) to ride that have 1/100th the idiots to deal with.  Those of you that know, please don't share.  Let the idiots find 'em the way we did, one gallon of gas at a time. When it's...

    Getting another FJR

It's late January - I highly doubt the seller has people lining up to pay $6,500.00 for that bike.  Personally, I've got way more time than money.  I'd call the seller and tell him I've got fifty (50) crisp one hundred dollar bills in my hand.  Say the word and they are yours.  Anticipate the...

    Steering Fall Away

Scottieman - I enjoyed reading your response, but as soon as I read "2.5 Bar", my first thought was "Your Attention Please, would McaTrophy please come to the information desk?".  :) Hope you enjoy your FJR.  Post up a ride report if you care to.  Scotland/Ireland is a trip on my wife and I's...
