    Location of 2009 CFO

IIRC, the last CFO in WI was at Sparta, a good location to be sure. I planned to go but life intervened :-( Perhaps for this CFO a better choice might be Prairie du Chein - this would offer access to day trips in SW WI, NE IA, SW MN and NW IL (just head whatever direction the weather is best)...

    We Lost A Great Friend

Been away for awhile and came back to find this. :( Had the pleasure of meeting TWN at NAFO and chatting for a few. Glad I did, but now wish I'd had the chance to know him better. What a bummer. Everything I can think of to write to describe how much this guy will be missed seems totally...

    Dealers

Ha! They'll kill for one, but be damned if they'll take it a step further and pay money for one. Talent goes where the money is, and there's damn few who have great knowledge and technical expertise who'll work for $20 an hour. I'll respectfully disagree with you on this. I don't ***** about...

    NAFO Ride Notes

You're correct that in a top speed run, I most likely would have won. But since I was two-up and need to protect my driver's license to keep my job, I was looking to outlast him, not out race him. I saw you at NAFO, and I too regret we didn't get a chance to chat a bit. Have to make a point to...

    NAFO Ride Notes

I thought it might be fun to share some experiences and thoughts from the NAFO journey....so here goes: 1. The FJR really started to suck gas as the speed limits increased. It's 75 in NE, and I usually keep it around 10 over. At 85 MPH I was draining 5.5 gal in about 165 miles. That's 30 MPG -...

    America the Beatiful

I probably travel (for pleasure) a bit less than the average guy. Nevertheless, I've been abroad, and I've come to the belief that if every vacation for the rest of my life took place within US Borders, I would be greatly satisfied, but would still yearn for more. Thanks for a great video. Hope...

Having A Dealer Perform Work On Your FJR

Very sorry to hear of your mishap. OTOH, be VERY grateful to have Pop. Here in the snowbelt, the vast majority of the mechanics are "seasonal" employees. Which means you're quite lucky to get your new scoot assembled correctly from the crate, and you can forget about proper repairs altogether...

    What about used coolant/brake fluid?

I pour used brake fluid and coolant down my well. Keeps the well pump lubricated and minimizes rust in the water pipes. Don't taste all that bad neither.

    Killed my Engine

Give her a hug for me, willya? :P I truly wish you the best of luck. But if it really vibrates worse than a Norton, it ain't over yet. Hopefully something simple is causing the vibration.....

    Completed

Poseur! Liar! You obviously have no intention of riding it since you've put no fluids into it - as evidenced by the lack of any stains on the floor beneath it! Oh...wait...it's not British. Nevermind. Sorry. I'm emotionally scarred. Nice job on the 'ol Zook bro! This dude would...

    07 Not Starting Part II

It sounds like you are checking all the connectors in the area where you were working. Since you haven't found the problem there, look elsewhere. Maybe something else is wrong. Have you checked for loose/damaged/pinched wires or connectors in the handlebar and switch area? Have you tried...

    What do you tell them

It usually goes about like this: Q. "Why do you ride those things?" (A tired question, to be sure) A. Because I like to. Q. "But aren't those things dangerous?" (NOTE: anyone who asks this is a nosy ****** who's just looking to bait you into a NEP discussion) A. Go **** yourself. It'll keep...

Better hope your 'ol lady don't see this post. If she knew you was out looking for drunk bulls.....imagine what the neighbors would think!

    05 FJR questions

I ride an '05. I don't think what you experienced is normal behavior for the bike. Could have been underinflated tires or something in the road (oil, sand, white stripe paint, etc). The rear luggage case is an add-on option that's prolly not included in the NADA value. Cost for the option is...

Taking your FJR into the Shop...Suggestions

That seems like a lot of work to document all that stuff and then re-check it after getting the bike back. But I agree it's a good idea. I could tell horror stories too. Almost seems it would be easier to learn how to fix it yourself. Unless it's a major overhaul, etc.

    Cad Software

I use Cadkey for 2D work. Fairly easy to use and not too spendy, yet has enough features to be considered a professional grade product.

What is your favorite folding knife?

For me, if it's just a knife, then any of the name brands suffice if I like their features, and that gets subjective. For traveling/camping trips, where the knife sometimes needs to be something else, then I like the Wave by Leatherman. It has a nice balance of features without being too...
