Raise the bed with some spacers under the feet- I found IKEA heavy duty 3inch adjustable feet. Put baskets under the bed for your toys and tape the ends of the slats and/or add more slats. I guess I am a woodworker since I play with my wood all the time:)

My golden pulled me from the shower once when a CO2 alarm malfunctioned and sounded. I could not hear it but he was strangely persistent. Dogs are great.
