Trouble down shifting on the Gen3

My unused 2010 (900 miles) when I found it last summer shifted somewhat clunky until I took the clutch apart and cleaned the parts in kerosene and soaked overnight in motor oil. I recently took FredW's suggestion and now pull in the clutch and blip the throttle before a shift from neutral to...

unauthorized throttle body sync with Harmonizer

Thanks Fred, that's pretty much the way I planned to do it. Then I decided to build my own 4 port ATF filled manometer which I'll finish today. Not much fun riding around here lately as the rain and cold wind just never stops this year.

unauthorized throttle body sync with Harmonizer

I searched but can't find out if this question has been asked already but can the "completely unauthorized throttle body sync" be performed using a two port Harmonizer?

I will NEVER buy a new FJR again

It is kind of annoying when companies like Yamaha seem to dump their products on the US market. This hurts their customer base because it adversely effects the value of a lightly used bike. Last year my friend buys a leftover 2015 for 13K and now there is a dealer in PA with an add on eBay for...

How I saved $175 and stayed out of the Dog House (Horns inop)

So where are you moving, Oregon? No offense but I hope not. Too many here from that state of mind AKA CA.

    fork brace

I did some investigating into this question and it now looks to me like the fork brace is probably a waste of time for a gen2 since Yamaha went with a 3rd fork bushing from the two bushing forks on the gen1 bikes. Probably a fork brace on a gen2 will accomplish nothing of significance nor will...

    fork brace

I was going to post this thread in the never ending and pointless forum but can't start a new thread there but I tried. Anyway, having recently installed a MCL fork brace on my gen2 I was wondering if a fork brace would do anything to help prevent fork bushing wear? Or maybe do just the opposite?

    Crunch!

Hi Fred, went to garage and tried it and success! Thanks again.

    Crunch!

I think I will adopt this method. Alan (ionbeam) sent me a PM that explains the inner workings of a motorcycle trans that supports your procedure. Don't know if it's necessary to rev the engine. Transmissions and how they operate are a bit beyond my pay grade. Hi Fred, the slipper clutch...

    Crunch!

Hi birdman, my neighbor has a 2015 and his bike always clunks when going into first. If you hold the clutch in and wait a couple seconds the clunk will most likely be gone. You want a noisy transmission find yourself an early BMW oilhead with the original M93 transmission and you will think...

    Crunch!

The thing that bothered me was not the typical clunk when shifting into first which I know most FJR's do but this time it wouldn't go into gear at all and produced a kind of loud grinding noise. It has only done this the once. My theory is that the oil was still cool and the bike hadn't been...

    Crunch!

Went for a great ride down the coast last Sunday after an odd beginning. I pushed the bike out of the garage and started it up letting it idle while I put on my gear. The bike idled for maybe 5 minutes before I mounted up. I pulled in the clutch and attempted to shift into first which...

    Yamaha #1 in Reliability

Well, yeah...I know that sounds crazy and I should know better I admit it and it was a ***** demounting those 7 year old steel belted POS Metzlers that only had 4400 miles on them. But, that's not as bad as what I did on the '93RS. I bought that bike 6 years ago and it had one (1) original...

    Yamaha #1 in Reliability

Hey, just installed a MCL fork brace with my new (yesterday) tires an took a ride. It might be all in my head but I swear the bike feels like it's on a rail and 100 lbs lighter with absolutely no hint of wobble at any speed to 100 mph! I could feel nothing but smooth in the handle bars so...

    Yamaha #1 in Reliability

OK, to be fair there are some things I like about the FJR. One is the outstanding factory service manual it is fantastic and much better than the FSM for my RS. The double sided swing arm on the FJR means virtually no final drive failures. I would much rather replace a clutch in an FJR than...

    Yamaha #1 in Reliability

I think BMW quality went down the drain beginning about 2000 thru about 2010 but then things began to improve. The car division assumed control over BMW Mottorad about 2000 or 2001 which probably resulted in quality going south. I know there was discussion about the possibility of stopping...

    dropped my new fjr!

I'm thinking rather than a detent for the side stand maybe connect the return spring to the front of the side stand rather than rear facing side. this might cause the return spring to actually pull the side stand down when it crosses a point of no return. Was looking at the side stand on my...

    dropped my new fjr!

I agree with rhun the side stand could use a detent. With my bike on the center stand I can pull the side stand up from fully deployed with a slight tug using only my little finger. A detent would help. Not criticizing Yamaha just making a minor product improvement suggestion.

    Broken Penske Clevis.

Evening Pie Smuggler, That says a lot for Penske. Now if they (Penske) would step up and help solve this clevis issue for these folks that would be decent and maybe they will. It doesn't appear to be a Yamaha problem.
