    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

Thanks for the suggestion Dave, I guess shaving off 1mm should not weaken the bolt enough to worry about but will ensure that any suitable filter will work without leaking.

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

AJ, I'm presently speaking with a local friend here who's got a lathe to see if he'll be willing to shave off 0.5mm off this bolt for me for a few beers ;)

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

rPGoatBoy pls share your findings once you've installed and run an outie filter with the modified Union Bolt. I am curious to know why you think reducing the width by around only 0.19 millimeters will be sufficient? Given that the torque setting for the Union Bolt is only 50 ft-lbs wouldn't it...

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

I am surprised that none of the good folks on the forum who have the expertise and equipment to machine down the Union Bolt #5 (90401-20145-00) to make the new filter design (and the old design) work properly are not getting in on this action. The new Union Bolt is only $8.45 from PartZilla.com...

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

So Ptaaty just wondering if you seen any of these Bosch 3323 filters with the "outy" fitting, which has been showing up in the Puralator filters or are these also hit and miss now, requiring visual inspection.

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

Interestingly, mine was similar, i.e. didn't start leaking for the first 1,500 miles, and then only during certain points in the engine temp cycle.

Custom Silicone Ear Plugs - Make Your Own!

Wine Guy, thanks for posting, I too am looking forward to the reviews of how these DIY plugs work. It looks like it's sold on Amazon.com for a very reasonable $17 with free Prime Shipping I use the Howard Leight LL1 Laser Lite Earplugs which I buy in a box of 200 @ $20. These are soft enough...

Odd Idle and TB Sync observation

Clutch failure, twice; Dealer has no clue whats wrong

Those Barnett clutch bits are nice, albeit expensive, however, the OEM clutch assembly works just fine too, oh and it lasts well too. My old engine died at 213,000 miles and I was still on the original clutch, which was never opened and it wasn't even slipping. I'm looking forward to examining...

    Zumo 550 repair

Over the years, I've replaced 5 Zumo 550 digitizers & screen combos, on my and friend's units. All were purchased from eBay and all worked ok. There are some listings on eBay where they specify a slightly smaller screen size (only a few mm) at a cheaper price, I have used these too, and they...

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

MrZappo you're making way too big of a deal out of this machining down thing, we're talking about a $7 bolt here after all, part #5. Bolt, Union 90401-20145-00 90401-20007-00 Once this simple mod is done, you'll be free to use any oil filter on the market with a compatible thread. Say you're on...

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

Yamaha simply while labels some OEM oil filter, I don't think they make their own, superior filter. If this "outie" design is the new industry standard, than the so called Yamaha oil filters will become even more expensive since Yamaha will no longer be able to buy these cheap and in bulk...

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

On the FJR Owners Facebook page one of the guys suggested machining down the union bolt a little to compensate for the new design of the oil filters. He'll be trying this idea out on his FJR, and see if it works with the "outie" Purolator filter. If it does he'll be offering this as an...

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

Since I need to import my Purolator filters from the US, I usually buy 5 or 10 units at a time. The defective filters we've been discussing were part of my most recent order of 5 filters. The first filter of the new type leaked, leaving an oil patch across half of Japan since this happened...

    Front Wobble

PozTonyPhoenix, I know your bike is nice and new, but still, one of the best long-term fixes for any/most wobble related issues is an upgrade to roller head bearings. I understand and agree with FredW's points about the head bearings not causing the wobble problems, but they sure as hell fix...

    Oil Filter Purolator 14612

As a data point, mine was the Yellow wrinkle finish version (PL14612 Pure One), which is the same type I've run for years, and never had a leak until this last batch with the dark colored (brownish) rubber seal.

Cheap Chinese Radiator - Waste of time

I can't remember which brand(s) I used in the US, but here in Japan, I buy the Wako's brand. I don't have any complaints against either the radiator or the t-housing or fans, 220k miles of useful life is good by me. I just wish I'd done the replacements at the time I was installing the new...

Cheap Chinese Radiator - Waste of time

Fred, I flushed my cooling system around once a year and always used good quality coolant, mixed 50/50 with distilled water. And as you've seen in both our cases the Thermostat housing is another weak point for corrosion. I'm convinced that this problem would not have manifested as quickly if I...

Cheap Chinese Radiator - Waste of time

Don I feel your pain buddy. My 220k mile radiator sprung leaks during my last big ride a few weeks back, as luck would have it it was only 1/3 through the ride so I managed to ride another 2k miles, feeding her regular doses of black pepper If you think burnt coolant is bad, you should try it...
