    Pirelli Angel GT's

Whilst I agree that the GT are a nice tire, as far as grip goes, they certainly don't have the longevity of the PR2. I tried a set of Angel GTs and even being moderately gentle on them (since I was on a trip and wanted to avoid but tires on the road) the rear tire only lasted a little under 4k...

What to do with Stock Exhaust after upgrade?

I'd gladly take them off you, except that shipping to Japan will make it prohibitive. Really though, how much space do the OEM pipes take up? Just wrap them up and stick them somewhere, they're stainless so they won't rust or anything.

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Looking at the wear on your 80k mile engine, I don't understand why/how things like the shift drum wouldn't also exhibit some wear (after 213k miles), and/or stress which could lead to premature failures. Or am I totally wrong?

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Thanks again for your input rPGoatBoy, I would love to do the engine retrofit myself and if this work was on my Djebel 250 (DRZ250) where the engine is easy to swap and comparatively cheap to source out I probably would. I've done things like Stator, Starter Motor, Valve Check, CCT, clutch, but...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Thanks Ross, fixed the post. Thanks rPGoatBoy, I saw these, but figured they are cheap enough to replace, as mine are still original parts.

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

According to Yamaha, to retrofit the engine the only/main parts I'd need to replace are the two listed below, I'm just quite sure which one is the shift actuator. 1: replace the shift cam 2: replace the shift actuator So as I understand it, no gears or shift forks need to be replaced?

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

I am trying to confirm which parts I would need to actually order, from the past posts and some feedback from Yamaha, I understand that the two fiches containing some of the parts are below: 2007 FJR1300A - FJR13AW SHIFT CAM FORK Diagram 2007 FJR1300A - FJR13AW SHIFT SHAFT Diagram

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Yes, thank you again wfooshee, I did watch/read your posts last summer, like many here in total awe that you were able to strip down your engine/gear box like that and more importantly put it back together and most importantly that it all worked afterwards I'm too stupid to do that, so will...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Yes, that's what I thought too, as it looks a lot like the TPS unit.

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

wfooshee, thanks for your comments, it again raises my hopes. And my fears of a "full Neutral at the bottom" are exactly the same as yours, accident waiting to happen. I am still concerned about the gear position part of this, from what I can see that part of the case looks different b/w the...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Hey Ross, thanks for the follow up. I'm still waiting to hear whether this is possible from some contacts at Yamaha. Apparently it might be depending on which model number AE engine I have. The problem with just give it a shot is that it's going to cost me a lot of money to have the mechanic...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Is there anyone on the Forum who's local or within a reasonable distance to the address below and might be willing to help out? I was wondering if a local member were to swing by this salvage yard to inspect the engine in person and see them do the Leak Down tests that might make them think...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

supertankerm60a3, I had briefly considered the idea of using the AE engine, and just adapting to the crazy gear pattern, and might have gone with that, but as a totally last resort. However, the fact that the AE engine doesn't have a place for the gear position sensor, which if I'm not...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Thanks Alan, I remember now reading your thread some years back, and whilst being disheartened by you misfortune and wishing your FJR a speedy recovery, at the same time being glad in side that my FJR (at the time) was just a baby and purring like a kitten... I am anxiously waiting to hear back...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

The compression was totally shot in all cylinders, reading in the 120-130 PSI range and #2 was showing about 50 PSI. When finally stopped riding the bike because oil mist was blasting from the RHS of the block it was due to the back pressure build up which blew out a part of the rocker cover...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

Thanks for the support Ross. I'll take some close up pics of the gear indicator area on both engines, but from memory the casing around that area looked different and not a bolt-on, at least that I could recognize from the outside type different. I am trying to enlist the help of the Yamaha...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

The donor bike, was also a 2007 with just under 11k miles on the clock. I remember seeing DL Salvage advertising the instrument cluster from that same bike (and with the same claimed mileage), this, at the time gave me additional confidence that I was getting a good engine, just a shame that...

Converting Gen 2 AE to A engine - is it possible?

rPGoatBoy, thanks for the glimmer of hope, this is what I'm trying to do now. One of the other, potentially more serious things I am concerned about is the part of the case where the A engines have the Gear Position Sensor unit. On the AE engine this part of the casing looks quite different...
