    What you do besides motorbikes?

Scotland is a fabulous vacation destination! We went in 2015 for 10 days (rented a car in Edinburgh and drove 1,000 miles through the Highlands and departed from Glasgow. Wondered around on our own and visited places as we came across them. Loved every minute! Dan

    FJR1300 To Be Retired

I hate ACC on my 2018 Toyota Tundra, only use it in very unusual circumstances (heavy rush hour traffic I don't experience anymore). It has been fooled a couple of times and took control of the vehicle unannounced and startling to say the least. I have NO use for all of the fancy electronics...

    2022 transmission

I found this: "Should they have any questions or concerns, owners of a 2016 to 2020 FJR1300 are welcome to reach out to the Yamaha customer service at 1-800-962-7926 to have their VIN verified. Customers can also address their questions to the NHTSA’s safety hotline service at 1-888-327-4236 or...

    Mileage

I've put 6.528 gallons in after sputtering for a mile or so. No after effects on the fuel pump a couple of years after the event. I wish there was an ACCURATE method of realistically determining the actual amount of fuel in the tank so we can plan accordingly. Dan

    Gen 3 or 4?

If you go with Gen 3, look for 2014 or 2015 if cruise control speed maximum means anything. 2013 has 80 mph upper limit, 2014 & 2015 has 100 mph upper limit. Otherwise, except for color all three years are identical ("A" models). Dan

Finally, a bike uglier than Brodie's old AE!

First saw one in Sydney, I was amazed. While watching him cruise the avenue suddenly the lights and siren went on, yanked a U-turn and sped off.

Trying to select an FJR Model

I always admired the FJR but did not consider one until the Gen III introduction (2013). These were the first with "throttle-by-wire" with two modes (T for Touring and S for Sport) as well as integrated electronic cruise control (a must for me). I was not attracted to the color of the 2013 but...

    My 2014 FJR1300A

Here is my FJR about 10 months after buying it on 11-15-2013. We are heading to the Canadian border to rendezvous with our buddy who is heading down from Canada. I have my Givi 46 liter Trekker mounted on a deck over the passenger seat that I designed and built myself. I have a 33 liter as a...

New mileage record on a single tank of gas

Unfortunately, I have forgotten the mileage but I began to sputter a few miles from the nearest gas station. I wiggled left and right to slosh the gas over to the pickup and coasted into the station that we finally arrived at. I do remember what it took to fill the tank and it was 6.528 gallons...

    Shrinking Motorcycle Market

I haven't read the whole thing yet but it looks depressing: https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/The-motorcycle-becoming-thing-of-the-past?utm_source=paid.outbrain.com&utm_campaign=BA%20US&utm_medium=referral One worrisome segment on Yamaha: "No. 2 Yamaha Motor plans to dead-end 15 of...

Do your Canyon Cages need a little maintenance?

That looks like the result of salty roads in the winter. Mine have not needed any attention almost four years after installing (California, no salt on roads). Dan

International Distance Converter Missing on Gen III

Kilometer to miles: divide by 8, multiply by 5. Easy to do in your head (we had to do this when we lived in Japan, mostly for speed limits). 40 Km = 25 miles. Dan

    dropped my new fjr!

I follow a basic ritual. At my age, I always lower the side stand prior to dismounting. I lower it and kick it forward to ensure it is at the forward stop. I hold the front brake to prevent any movement of the bike as I dismount. I lower it on to the stand, dismount and then almost always...

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

Just be glad we have 6.6 gallons to deal with vs. 5.8 gallons on the Kawasaki C-14. This was one of the feature eliminators for me (there were others). Dan

    Split: Hollow FJR Axles

This is goofy. I checked part number with Ron Ayers: 1) 2005: 5JW-25381-00-00 5JW-25381-10-00 2) 2008: 5JW-25381-00-00 3) 2014: 5JW-25381-10-00 The first part number for the 2005 is lined through and the second number is the same as the 2014. Really weird, looks like hollow for 2005, 2014...
