    Split: Hollow FJR Axles

Mine is on my 2014, you can look clear through it. Check your 2015 and you will see what I mean. Dan

    Rear Wheel removal issue

A rubber mallet won't do the trick, you need something solid like a block of wood or brass/copper drift as others have mentioned. Also, it might help to back up the swing arm right next to the axle with a 3-5 pound sledge hammer. Place a bit of duct tape on the swing arm so it won't scratch it...

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

    Gotcha, I agree. Dan

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

Well, I'm just thinking that since the "bag got ripped of the bike", it was subjected to a lateral load that fractured the tab. A repair of this tab that didn't strengthen it sufficiently to lateral loads would allow the same failure to occur. Dan

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

Can you post any close-up pictures of the fracture? I would highly recommend (if at all possible) to mechanically re-attach using screws or thin plates + screws. If it is repaired with adhesive, I am not sure it would be strong enough to absorb lateral loads. In the initial latching operation...

    Ken- heart attack

I found reference to a SPECT test, but not SPEC. Is this the test you are referring to? Dan

    Tire Pressure Monitor

This is the system I've had about a year or so, I really like it. The battery in the control unit seems to last forever (like a watch or something) but I recharge before a trip. Has worked flawlessy so far. Sensors on "T" stems, easy to change those batteries when needed. Dan

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

I agree, that is one of my rules as well (and I have counceled my boys on the same subject - heading out into the boondocks, fill the gas tank first). Unfortunately, no gas stations at the 101/58 junction so I was rolling the dice. If I was by myself I would have swung a U-turn and looked for a...

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

Now that is a pretty cool idea. I can't watch the video right now (my wife is teaching a class right behind me), is the material "gas friendly"? Dan

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

I didn't necessarily become concerned about running out until the "count up" went above about 40. I had two friends with me, I was not alone. Also, Jerry owed me about half a dozens tows to a gas station (one time in a monsoon rain) that I figured he could bail me out somehow. The map showed a...

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

No thanks (on the aux tank). I will know to plan accordingly in the future. Dan

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

Yeah, it really sucks, totally worthless IMO. Just tell me I have hit "reserve", that's all I need to know. This constant blinking like I need to be reminded every two seconds gets old also. It is interesting that there is almost no useable fuel left when it starts running on fumes. My buddy...

So, I Ran Out of Gas...

2014 A, heading across Highway 58 east from 101 (California), eventually to Barstow. When we turned off 101, there was a sign that said "No Services Next 82 Miles". I was a bit concerned but did a quick mental check and figured I was probably going to be okay. I didn't pass up the opportunity...

I will NEVER buy a new FJR again

The last time I bought a used motorcycle was a 1970 Honda CB750 in July of 1972, only because I could not afford new at the time. Every bike since, brand new (1979 Yamaha XS1100F, 1985 Honda CB700SC Nighthawk S, 2003 Kawasaki ZG1000 Concours, 2014 Yamaha FJR1300A). I was NOT going to wait on the...

    Removing rounded-off bolts

That engine block (with the busted exhaust stud) looks like it laid on the bottom of the ocean for a few decades. The tools being used to remove the stud are worth way more than the entire vehicle probably. Dan

    Top case mount, two position

In my case (the Trekker mount), there were at least two reasons: 1) My Dad always cautioned against adding weight high and behind the rear axle. With the motorcycles of the time (several decades ago), handling would be adversely effected and a high speed wobble could occur. I have always just...

    Top case mount, two position

Nice work BTW! I developed an easy-on, easy-off method. With the case in the pictures (33L Givi Trekker), it is easy to mount/dismount by just swinging the leg higher. I have a 46L and I just stand on the left peg and mount like getting on a horse. Side stand down, dismount same way. Eezee...

    Why?

Well, out here in BFE northern California, the closest Yamaha dealer (where I bought my 2014 A) is 45 minutes away. And they deal mostly with boats, dirt bikes and ATVs. The street bikes are a tiny percentage of their biz. So, for me, it is Bike Bandit or Ron Ayers. Dan
