Doggie Down .. Cdog sez.. I fell of the bike!! ARF!!

Sorry to hear about your get-off. Glad everyone is okay. It's time to quit searching for an answer to what you could have done differently to avoid the crash. Sometimes **** happens. In my experience, when both ends go at the same time there is nothing you can do. In your case, it was...

    Mounting a zumo 550

I use the mount that Garmin provides and am quite happy with it. I'm not sure I'd care for the stem mount. I'd use the stock mount--it didn't cost you anything extra--and if you don't like it, them go with the stem mount. That was my plan, and after using the stock setup, I can't think of a...

Best Basic GPS? Just need to see the route?

I use the Garmin Zumo 450. You can plan routes, upload them, and it will guide you. No other bells and whistles for the MC. You won't get one for $250, but it is cheaper than the Zumo 550. If you search retailers and find a price too low to believe, there is a reason for that. They are sham...

i lowsided my fjr and the engine light is on. what could trigger that?

I know I've read elsewhere on this forum that the check engine light comes on after a tip over. It has to do with diagnostic error code 30. But I have no personal experience--knock on wood.

How Much Further Can I Lean It Over?

Chicken stripes are no sign of dishonor on the street. The only way to ride to your absolute limit is on a track where conditions change little lap to lap and you can continually push a little harder each lap. In feeling out a bike and its limits, you usually ride to a plateau where you ride...

    Summer jacket recommendations?

+1 or much more to the Motoport/Cycleport Kevlar mesh. It is as cool as a Joe Rocket mesh, but way more protective. Kevlar! Expensive? Yes. Worth it? Yes. I don't see another good choice.

    The StreetMasters Method

Great post JB and excellent thread. The biggest problem I have on the street is looking where I want to go. It was no problem back in the day when I was racing, because you tricked your brain into believing that the track would always be clean and clear, like it was the lap before. But I have...

    Weeeeee Moto Crazzzzz

As organ donors, it's obvious neither one of these guys will be able to donate a brain. Someone is going to get hurt--hopefully it will be one of them instead of someone else. Actually, all of us riders get hurt by the way they act.

Father Son Adventure - The Final Leg

Absolutely awesome photos and a great ride report. I'm one of probably many who are at a place in their lives and in circumstances where we won't have an opportunity to make this ride. Your effort to post up is a gift to us. Thanks.

    Zumo question

On Zumoforums.com and here, there is a big debate about going directly to the battery or using switched power. I go directly to the battery. I have my battery tender leads hooked up to the battery and I just soldered on a trailer pig tail to the wires of the Zumo (available at any auto parts...

    Time for a new jacket

I'd rather go down the road in Kevlar from Motoport than leather. And I have been down the road plenty in leather...

    Haven't ridden in four months

I think you'll be fine. A little rusty, but it comes back pretty quickly. After riding and racing bikes a lot from the age of 15 'till I was 34, I took an 18-year break (family time). In 2002 I rode out of a dealership with 18 years of rust. But the rust fell off pretty quickly. If you...

How old are you FJR riders?

I'm a few days away from 59; started riding when I was 15. The math is getting tough at this age--44 years of riding. Almost always solo.

Going across the USA on my motorcycle

Myke, I'm having so much fun on this trip! Well, watching it unfold. I've just caught up with you guys. I'm in Charlotte, NC, and I hated to see you were here and I didn't know it. Should have been reading every day. I think you'd have fun and a smile on your face whatever you were doing...

    Triple tree riser, need advice

Follow Heli's instructions for bolt removal around the ignition switch. I removed the screw heads without removing the tank. Took about 1 minute per screw. Easy as pie. Use a center punch and drill the heads off.

Need Gas to get back to New York / Should I

Until the middle of the week, gas could only be found at about 10% of the gas stations. I'd say we are about 50/50 now, but the two stations I passed on my way to work this morning appeared to be empty. There is no premium anywhere, only regular. If you are on your FJR that shouldn't be a...

    Garmin 550 Route download trouble...

Did you wait a while before going to routes? After you disconnect the GPS takes a few minutes and then a screen will pop up saying something about managing the file (can't remember what it says, but you have to select something before it is loaded and ready to view the route.) The key is...
