    How tall are you?

6'10" here, '05 GEN1... nothing fits me great but I've got the stock seat, peg lowering brackets, bar risers, taller windshield. Works for my type of riding (mostly local stuff) but I can't sit on it all day. I don't think I've even sat on any newer FJR. However, some of the larger Adv bikes...

    Valve Adj. Survey

Bought my '05 with 48K miles, minimal service records and nothing about valves. Found 2 slightly tight... 1 int, 1 exh. Rechecked at ~75K and no change, all in spec. Mr. BR

    Oxford Heated grips

I've got the Oxford heated grips on my '05, installed back in 2017... and despite my normally impeccable record keeping for my bike, I did not write down the specific model. They've been working fine ever since however... Mr. BR

The Kindness of Strangers Towards White-haired Guys

Nice story, Mark! (and now I see it was 6 mos ago!) Coincidently, I believe I was just on that same road this past Saturday morning around 8am. I’ve been trying to ride more these days since I’m no longer commuting. Thought I’d take small local loop and it had been years since I’d been on Bear...

Need Throttle Body Assembly Expert Advice

Well, a big congrats is in order then! Glad to hear they got it figured out for you... plus some help on the bill $$. I guess it's a reminder that that those butterflies have a rather precise fit in the throttle body bore... sames goes for CV type carbs. Best regards and thanks for the update...

    Water pump leaking

Or you can go the Ebay route like I did last year. Got a low mileage GEN3 pump for $45. Low risk if it didn't work out (my original pump was starting to dribble a from the weep hole). Here's a pic... slight color difference and it fit perfect! Mr. BR

Need Throttle Body Assembly Expert Advice

Thanks for the update, Jim! I'm then curious as to just how far apart you disassembled the TBs.... besides pulling off the injectors, did you separate the TBs? And what does "mechanically cleaned them" mean? Btw, I also replaced the starter on my '05 last year and for the first time, had my TBs...

Need Throttle Body Assembly Expert Advice

What year is your bike? Perhaps your cold idle circuit is stuck open... it's the "wax motor" thing under the TBs with 2 small coolant lines attached to it. You should be able to see the plungers even with the TBs in place (from the left side). Here's a pic from another TB thread.... the...

    2003 OEM Muffler question

Well, I'll be... ! An interesting thread from Oct. '14 that does seem to confirm the Gen2 cans actually have CC in them... too bad the thread is old enough that the pictures don't show! I guess my '05 exhaust emissions are now extra clean!! That was not a consideration when I bought my...

    2003 OEM Muffler question

I've read that as well but I don't think it's true. The Partzilla pricing between an '05 muffer (Gen1) and the 06-12 (Gen2) mufflers are both around $600 ea. which makes me believe they're essentially the same (just assuming a catalyst would def priced much higher) and that both (all?) Gens have...

    2003 OEM Muffler question

I don't think there is any real difference between Gen1 and Gen2 cans.... even the Yam Part Numbers are almost the same. The end cap design does change a little bit in the newer modes (Gen3+) but I'm guessing that is just a cosmetic thing and the internals are likely still the same. Regards, Mr. BR

    2003 OEM Muffler question

When I bought my '05 back in early 2014, the previous owner had give the cans the "trooper mod" which produces a bit more noise. However, I did not like it and quickly found a set of clean Gen 2 cans from another forum member (or Ebay, don't recall). I offered up the modified cans to anyone who...

2005 FJR 1300 in NE Texas!

That little screen is an "MRA X-Creen Tour Windscreen Spoiler Blade"... I've got one on my '05 as well to compliment my V-stream windshield (I'm rather tall and didn't want an even bigger screen). Clamp-on or bolt-on versions are available and they're nicely adjustable to give you a little extra...

    2003 OEM Muffler question

Agreed! The OEM cans are not serviceable and should be good for the life of the bike. Here's what one looks like inside with exhaust flow path (off my '05, replaced with Gen 2 cans due to prev owner mods). As you can see, just running the exhaust back and forth through 3 empty chambers really...

    WTB Radiator Gen 1

I see 3 gen1 OEM units on ebay right now.... USA sellers, prices from $50 to $250 (of course, the $50 unit is East Coast w/minor damage) but the other 2 are right here in Nor Cal. If you decide to go used, you can have your local rad shop check it over for leaks, pressure test etc. I used...
