    E-Mail from Aerostitch

I have received a few emails from Aerostich recently (not unusual) but I deleted them without reading them (they are usually about Sale items etc). Now I'm curious..... Mr. BR

    Sierra Passes

Article in today's San Jose Mercury News about the Sierra passes.... not a lot of detail but it's something: https://www.mercurynews.com/2017/06/15/snowbound-california-roads-still-getting-a-major-plow-job-5/ Mr. BR

    Rear wheel bearing

65K on my '05 and, as far as I know, original wheel bearings. I usually just grease them at each tire change. The last time I made sure to check the middle bearing in the rear wheel which is behind the cush-drive... I may have forgotten it before.... oops! It looks great anyway but I was glad...

    LED Headlights

Got mine installed....trimmed back the rubber boot as others have described but I could not get the bulb to lock into place with the boot installed. It seems the clip that holds bulb's base in place is very close the heatsink and putting the boot in place just wouldn't let it engage. So I...

    Helmet Guardian

I bought the helmet locks that attach to the license plate bracket... I think I got it through Twisted Throttle (Guardian? not sure). Anyway, it comes with two locks/keys so I left one on the Lic Plate bracket and installed the other using the the bracket from the link above... the lockset fit...

    LED Headlights

Ordered mine last Friday and they arrived today....I figure at $42 shipped, the risk was low. I've been watching the various LED threads for a while and with the endorsements above, it was time to upgrade my '05! Regards, Mr. BR

Fuel injection/throttle issues in hot weather

Interesting... my '05 (yes, a CA bike) just did something similar. We're getting a little break from the rain and temps have been in the 70's this week. Went to leave work earlier this week and bike took more than normal cranking to fire. Regular high-idle but it was stumbling and blubbering at...

    2001 Honda Shadow Spirit 1100 - for sale $2900 - SOLD

Around here (and probably everywhere), they are referred to as the "Craigslist Flakes". Congrats on the sales... buyer got a great deal. Mr. BR.

    FZ1 Mirrors for FJR

I've also got the SWM mirror extensions on my '05.... they do improve the view a bit but I'd estimate the mirrors are moved out less than an inch on each side. They fit good and are well made, but are expensive at around $80 (?) if I recall correctly. I'll keep them for now but I think the...

    The B-17G Bomber

Nice Picture! I walked through "Aluminum Overcast" many years ago during one of its many appearances here in California (way back in ~'98 I think?). A few weeks after that, my future wife and I were having dinner on the Space Needle in Seattle and there it was again.... flying around the city...

    Progressive/StateFarm

Progressive customer here as well for my '05 and my previous bike (ST11). Hope I never use it but glad to hear they stepped up for you. Mr. BR

Radiator - OEM vs. Ebay vs. repair

These guys are good if you don't mind shipping your rad to Utah: https://mylers-radiators.myshopify.com/ I've sent both my FJR and ST1100 radiators to them for cleaning, repair and straightening. Mr. BR

    Split: 190 tires

Correct.. the new tire in my picture is 190/55 x 17. I figure the additional rolling circumference lopped about 75 RPMs off my top gear engine speed.... that's the main reason I went with the bigger size (bonus: easier to get bike on center-stand too....) Mr. BR

The 2015/2016 Big FJR Tire Poll

Just put a set of PR4's on my '05 last weekend.... dang! Most expensive tires I've ever put on a bike but I wanted them for my all-weather commuting. Got about 9500 miles on the PR3's... rear down to the wear bars in a few spots and slightly flat in the middle but the front was still good for a...

Drain Oil before removing Oil Pump/Timing Cover?

Hey Ken... I LOVE that video you made..... a real eye-opener for me as I was very surprised how little oil is getting flung off the crank (also amazing how fast things are spinning even at a high idle!). If I ever have my clutch cover off, I plan to do a similar video clip except I'll drop it...

What mods have been done to your FJR.

My '05 came mostly stock except for bar risers but since then I've added a bigger windshield, peg lowering brackets (I'm tall so all of these help). OEM cans remain as I love the quiet and the seat is original as my saddle time is limited to commuting these days so it works fine. That may...

    2016A totalled in Oregon (eRepairables)

Ouch! That took a hard hit.... the RH side frame rail above the clutch cover is buckled in one of the pics! Still, the engine could be ok.... would be fun to tear apart. Mr. BR

    Synthetic Gear Lube

Hey Art! I've used both the Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75-90 and the Amsoil in my Gen1... both work fine and have the GL5 rating. One of my local shops in the South Bay carries both if I recall so it's easy for me to get either one. No preference on either but I'm currently running the...

    Last ride of the year-video

Nice... I'm in South San Jose and I can look out across town and see Mt. Hamilton and the Observatory at the top. I haven't been to the top in at least 10 yrs and I've never ridden out past it towards the Livermore/Tracy area. I know... haha.. I need to get out more (I mostly commute these...

What did your FJR get for Christmas?

I got a Powerlet outlet kit for the FJR (install pending). For me, I ordered up a pair Aerostich AD1 riding pants (20% sale!) that I will return to them for some alterations after the New Year (add'l inseam needed). And, I received two of Neil Peart's books (As most of you know, he's the...
