    Summer Helmet Thread

White Aria Profile.. had it several years.. I should probably check on the purchase date to see if I'm at 5 yrs. Fits my oval shaped head quite well (main reason for purchase originally), venting works good in hot temps. Just this past weekend I pulled the cheek pads and main liner and gently...

drilling small holes in the clutch basket?

Oh come on now! It's just a healthy discussion about the merits of a single O-ring! Seeing how much discussion there has been on clutch soaking, I think this offers a real possibility of getting some additional oil to the clutch which could reduce/eliminate the need for additional soaks and...

drilling small holes in the clutch basket?

My Yam FSM clearly shows the transmission main-shaft is supplied oil with several holes to feed the transmission gears and clutch-basket needle bearing. This would indeed bathe the entire push-rod assembly in oil within the main-shaft. It seems logical the O-ring on the last component of the...

drilling small holes in the clutch basket?

Good point, Brodie. It does seem logical that the O-ring is there to stop or at least restrict the oil flow through the main-shaft to the inner clutch pack... which would also maintain the oil pressure upstream for those items getting fed (the non-splined gears on the main-shaft, the shaft...

drilling small holes in the clutch basket?

C-Mesh, You are correct on the o-ring.. I was not aware of that! Hmmmm.... Simply remove the O-ring and increase oil flow to your clutch pack? Mr. BR

drilling small holes in the clutch basket?

I always read with interest the whole “clutch soak” thing. Very surprising how dry some clutches are found upon disassembly. The FJR does have a wet clutch and it is located well above the oil sump level but directly next to, and driven by, the crankshaft primary gear. However, as stated by...

    Oil near the Tranmission Input

My 60K '05 looks just like the OP's bike.... on mine, it's from the grease I applied to shifter pivot and the shifter rod-ends. Call it "grease-creep" for lack of a better term and it collects dirt/grim down there. A quick swipe of a rag and it'll be gone. Mr. BR

    Loud muffler

I tossed them due to the extra noise produced by the trooper mod......previous owner did it. Some folks like the extra noise but not me... I leave early each morning for work and quiet is good. Found a set of clean GEN2 cans from another forum member and I've been happy ever since. Mr. BR

    Loud muffler

Correct, our OEM Mufflers have no packing.. the baffling is all mechanical. Here's my dissection of my old OEM cans before I tossed them due to the "trooper" mod: Regards, Mr. BR

    100K ride to Winters, CA

Congrats on the 100K Milestone.... my '05 is just shy of 60K. Your breakfast spot is 115 miles from me but I've got other commitments unfortunately. Mr. BR

    Riders over 6'5"?

Checking in at 6' 11" and a 38" inseam. My '05 has a stock seat, peg lowering brackets, Heli set-back spacers for the handlebars and a V-stream shield.... ya, it's a little tight but a 32 mile RT commute is most of my riding these days and I'm comfortable. A long trip or just a few hours of...

clutch soak, transmission in gear, or in neutral

It doesn't matter.... but neutral prob best.. Gives you the freedom to rotate inner clutch hub if needed during assembly I suppose. Mr.BR

    NHL Playoffs

Game 6 at home for San Jose Sharks Wednesday night against the Blues...Series currently 3-2 Sharks. Hoping they can wrap it up with a win at home to advance. Gonna be huge if the Sharks make it to the finals. Mr. BR

    Chain driven FJR? WTF?

One of the pictures has a Suz DL1000 V-strom in the background... looks like seller mixed up his pictures and included a shot of the Strom's rear wheel/chain.... and the front wheel. Mr. BR

    Hard down shifting...clutch circuit issue?

I love that video.. if they dropped it into first gear, you could see the entire center hub of the clutch snap (clunk) to an immediate halt! Looking at the schematic in my Yam shop manual, the main transmission shaft is fed with oil pressure and there is one hole which allows oil to feed the...

    Putting in Gear Cold

My 60K ’05 clunks into first too.. it’s normal and nothing unique to FJRs. Here’s what I do for my morning start, cold engine: fire it up and it goes to its normal high/cold idle. I spend about 30 seconds getting my gloves on while the high idle starts to come down. Then, I hold the clutch...

What other bike did you have right before the FJR?

FJR (current), ST11, Triumph Tiger, and a C10 Connie '86 before that... I'm only 2.5 yrs into the FJR so it will be around for a while. Mr. BR

Original CCT What Should I Do?

I agree with others... change the CCT when you have the valve check done..... bike will be apart anyway! I changed it on my '05 mostly for peace of mind. No big deal.

Drive shaft removal from final drive

ah... guilty as charged! I LOVE the re-geared FD unit on my '05! If I ever upgrade to a Gen2 or 3 FJR, the re-geared FD stays with me and gets installed on the new bike! I'm still thinking the GEN1 FD unit really should just bolt right up on your GEN2 bike with zero issues. The drive-shaft...

Drive shaft removal from final drive

To the OP: Why the change? Is current unit leaking? Just curious about what's driving the change. Mr. BR
