    Survey: What's under your seat?

I only have a Fuzeblock FZ-1 under my seat since I have to disassemble some brackets to even be able to remove my seat(s). Dan

    Any rumor on the 2016...?

Yeah, but women everywhere LOVE the color and approach me often to say so (not to mention with a smile and batting eyelashes). I can certainly live with that... BTW, this only happens when I have my helmet on and they can't see that they are looking at a balding older guy... Dan

    Any rumor on the 2016...?

Yeah but graphite isn't a liquid nor are cherries "black". Dan

2014 or 15 ECU in 2013 cruise control

Not only that but with the YCC-T the AVCC will be almost impossible to install based on how the grip throttle assembly works. The cables go to a controller module and it is highly unlikely that it will accept a cruise control cable attachment. Dan

    MPG at Higher Altitudes

I have taken my 2014A up into the Sierras on a few occasions and I have measured better gas mileage at altitude than around the lower elevations (from around 600 feet MSL to 6,000-7,000 feet). MSL = Mean Sea Level. I ride in the same manner in both locals and I get 42-44mpg (measured with trip...

    2015 Windshield Auto Retract

As a habit, every time I roll to a stop I run the shield down (in traffic, through a small town, etc.). Also when I get ready to park, the shield gets lowered fully (this on a 2014A). Even though I do this I would not want an auto-retract system since I run the shield all the way up to clean it...

    Any rumor on the 2016...?

Oh, I did for sure. It really didn't take long for Yamaha to get a grip on reality as far as a realistic sales posture, but I just waited for the Gen III to arrive. Dan

    Any rumor on the 2016...?

And this stupid program was the single biggest reason I would have nothing to do with the FJR when it first came out in the US. The heck with Yamaha, I didn't care how great the bike was, if they were going to stick their nose in the air like this, I'll go somewhere else (and I did). Dan

From R1 to FJR; my observations

The FJR can revolutionize the experience of motorcycling like no other motorcycle can. This coming from a life-long motorcyclist that began riding in 1961. I first tasted how Yamaha approached motorcycles in the fall of 1978 when I bought a brand new Yamaha 1979 XS1100. Yamaha values (and...

Upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10

This is the information I was hoping to find. I'm on 7 Professional and it is questionable whether I can find drivers for some of my devices and I really don't want to take the chance. My system is humming along perfectly right now and I hate to do something (anything) that drops a monkey wrench...

Big Trunk, Little Trunk, Rack, Bags?

You've all probably seen this before but I deigned and fabricated my own "over the passenger seat" deck for my Givi Trekker 33 and 46 cases: I use the rear rack for a soft cooler (Polar Bear). It's red too, of course. Dan

    Windshield bolts: scary ride yesterday

I replaced mine with windshield mounting screws from a Kawasaki Concours (stainless steel): Never in all my motorcycling life heard of any hazard as far as mounting a windshield with these bolts. Twenty years of C10 Concours production, not one incident that I have seen reported. I don't...

    I broke this piece..

There is no movement on the rear wheel drive splines either but if they run dry they can chew themselves up. Seen that happen (Kawasaki Concours and Yamaha XS1100). On the U-joint splines greasing them is at least good corrosion protection and it doesn't hurt at all to have them lubricated...

    2014, 2015, or 2016?

In 50+ years of riding over ten motorcycles several hundred thousand miles all over the western half of the US, Canada and Japan, my 2014 A model is the most perfect motorcycle I've ever ridden or owned. I have just shy of 18,000 miles with zero issues and many smiles. I leave for a four day...

Not the 1st, won't be the last I'm sure....

After working at HP (which morphed into Agilent) for 14 years I got laid off in 2002. Since the management team really did not realize that engineers are the source of the company's income, I felt that they did not deserve my services. Rather bitter about the whole thing at the time. I got a...

    Helicoil

You could get a "cold weld" or galling situation but you probably would have noticed resistance upon initial assembly. The lubrication effect on torque is somewhat minimal depending on the application but I would (just to be safe) apply a little oil or grease and adjust torque accordingly...

You Know You're From Arizona When. . .

It is common to "summerize" your motorcycle rather than "winterize". Winter is perfect riding weather, too danged hot in the summer especially in stop-n-go traffic. I visited Phoenix in the summer once. I'll never do that again. Dan
