FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

I just renewed my AAA with motorcycle coverage earlier this week... better stay within the 100 mile towing limits :)

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

I'm happy to hear this. I keep getting the feeling that it is a malfunction of a kill switch somewhere. Either the handle bar manual kill switch, tip-over cut-off switch, or the sidestand kill switch. My clean-up job of the kill switches will hopefully resolve the problem. I also pulled the...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

To test out the shorting coil theory, I disconnected one coil at a time and started the motorcycle. The FJR, believe it or not, will run on two cylinders without stalling. In order for a complete power loss, both coils would have to fail at the same time. I have not installed any extra relay...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

When tested using the diAG system test, the fuel pump runs appropriately. Holy crap! Now... if I pull the fuel pump and it's ok, is the only item needing replacement the fuel pump o-ring?

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

Completed the ignition system troubleshooting process within the limitations of my tools (no dynamic spark tester) and all was OK except one spark plug wire had a little corrosion on it. I trimmed all wires by 1/4 inch and re-seated them into their respective plug caps. This shouldn't have been...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

I went through the entire diAG system and found code 61 - cycled between 15, 21, and 30. This has never been cleared, so the 15 may have been when the TPS recall was done, 21... I'm not sure why code 21 (coolant temp sensor) other than maybe an issue when the valve clearance check was...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

From the FSM: ECU (Electronic Control Unit) The ECU is mounted underneath the seat, below the toolbox. The main functions of the ECU are ignition control, fuel control, self-diagnosis, and load control. The Engine Control Unit..... what does it do? I searched the FSM for "Engine Control...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

Are you referring to the Engine Control Unit 5JW-8951A-32-00, the Electronic Control Unit 5VS-85940-00-00, or the main switch (key switch) 5JW-82501-20-00, or either of the two ignition coils?

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

Now the kickstand kill switch. First the housing needs to be removed from the kickstand. This was easiest with removal of the two bolts that hold the kickstand in place then removal of the switch from the kickstand assy. The two mounting screws were held on with thread lock... making them a...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

So, my interventions have started..... First, I checked the battery terminal posts. Both positive and negative cables were tight. I pulled them loose, cleaned them nice and shiny, and re-assembled. Next.... the handlebar kill switch. Housing was plenty clean.. Contact points had a scant...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

I will try to check the battery cables when I get home. IF the battery terminal comes loose, wouldn't the gauges stop working and the dash go blank during the power loss? I'd considered this as a higher probability source. The switch isn't too expensive, but I may just pull it out of the...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

I remember this post as well and addressed the issue about 6 months ago. I pulled the noted couplers apart, cleaned them with electrical contact cleaner spray, and re-assembled with no incident. I will recheck these couplers this week though.

Oh Dolly... you are a dirty little whore aren't you? When are you coming to Grapevine?

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

No check engine light until after I had pulled in on the clutch and stopped at the roadside, letting the RPM drop to 0. No sputtering or weak performance. Instant on and instant off. I wish it was a fuel delivery issue but fear an electrical gremlin. Edit: Datel voltimeter read a stedy 14...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

No power commander. Autocom communication system, HID headlights, heated grips, heat troller for jacket, accessory power outlet (not being used at the time of the event). The only new change to the bike was me replacing my Autocom Pro 7 sport with a new autocom Logic system. No rewiring. It...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

After arriving safely home, I entered the diagnostic menu on the FJR. Diag code 01 - TPS range is 17-102 (not too bad and the TPS recall work was done) code 02 - atmospheric pressure matched that of my riding buddies FJR which was sitting behind my bike. code 03 - Ranged from 0-3 while...

FJR repeatedly dies while riding at highway speeds

Vehicle: 05FJR ABS, I am the single owner and have performed all maintenance except for valve clearance adjustments (dealer done). Events: During a playful two day ride in TX hill country, on both days, my FJR died on me in a successive pattern. The first event was about 20 miles after topping...

A New Mexico state police officer has been fired after security cameras caught him having *** with a woman on the hood of a car.

On duty = no, no - agreed, but on his own time and on his own car.... then I question the termination. Was it on the patrol car? Was this lot public property? Could he become humiliated further and be charged with some sort of *** crime and have to register as an offender? Poor *******...

    Crossing into Mexico at Laredo

The border patrol personnel on both sides love to bake cakes, so fill several ziplock bags with a combination of baking soda, powdered sugar, and flour. Be sure to take a lot with you because there are several guards on both sides who will be looking forward to your gift.
