This question is somewhat off topic but it is about transmission health. I rarely use the clutch to up shift. I simply roll off the throttle and snick it into the next higher gear. Is there any known negative effects from this practice?  

My complements to your photographic acumen!!  I've been to many of the venues you have posted but never captured them as well as you have. Utah and Arizona sure do offer some of the best photo ops. in the west!!!

Thank you.  I do not ride in rain very often and periodically I clean and lube those areas. On the switches (front and rear brake and side stand) I use a Tuner Control cleaner and lube aerosol that I bought from Best Buy. Would you suggest that is a good preventative??

It was Mr BR's original post on this Forum that tipped me to this mod. I seem to have a bit higher gearing (2014) than Mr BR (2005). At 60mph I am at 2600rpm. I too have a 190/55 rear tire. 

Exactly my point. If you modify the final drive gearing you can get the same benefit as a 6th gear without risking a second gear failure.   :bike:

I concur with your comments. ^^^  I hav been riding motorcycles for over 50 years and never ride with headlights on high beam except for night with no on-coming traffic. I have had three FJR's and never had a headlight bulb burn out. My prior two bikes (FJR's) had less than 50K when I sold them...

Pleased Yamaha continues to make the FJR available in the U.S.  I was hoping they would do another red and I would have considered it for my final final. At 78 years old I will stay with my 2014ES with 50K miles and running like the day I bought it.   :bike:

Just curious, is that 220.005 with no engine issues other than perhaps valve shims?  The FJR engine is an amazing work horse. 

You are correct, the calcium chloride was very corrosive. My experience was in the late 1950's and anti-freeze was considered too expensive for such use. Beet juice? Is that for real or wrencher's vernacular for anti-freeze?   :rolleyes:
