    Battery replacement

This is an interesting subject. Why is it the Japanese YUASA batteries last so much longer than those not manufactured in Japan? I had two FJR 2007's in the past and never had to change the original battery. My current 2014 was changed last year because it was not holding full charge after...

Are OEM brake pads for a 2014ES sintered?

I am in the camp with RossKean. I have had three FJR's and never had a leak in any of the brake components. My riding habits and cleaning procedures may have contributed to this. I have never ridden on roads where salt was present. I rarely ride in the rain. After each trip I carefully clean the...

Are OEM brake pads for a 2014ES sintered?

When you folks rotate the pads, do you switch pads left side to right side and vise versa? I have 67,000 on my original pads and they still look to be more than half remaining on the pads. Nearly all the miles are road trips and I always use engine braking and rarely ever needed to break hard.

    Push Pin Fasteners

I have had three FJR's and never once had an issue with the Phillips head fasteners. I suspect the reason they would fail is because when re-setting them they are turned beyond what is needed. Kinda like stripping the threads!!

    E15 / Unleaded 88 in 2008 FJR1300

I stopped buying Big Three manufactured vehicles in 1971 when I bought a Toyota Celina. Over the next 52 years I have owned only Japanese vehicles,Toyota, Nissan, Yamaha and Lexus vehicles. Never have I had to replace a fuel pump. I have never used E85 fuel. The highest mileage on any of those...

    2024 FJR1300 Announced - No Changes

I'm now too old to be thinking about how much longer the FJR will be in production. I will ride my 2014ES until I elect to stop throwing a leg over the saddle. If I were to buy another motorcycle it will have to be shaft drive. I see no reason Yamaha cannot fit a compliant engine in the FJR...

    Heated grips.

This is interesting. I have been using Grip Buddies (thin) for quite some time. I started with my 2014 when new in Dec 2013 and only changed out for new last year. Current miles on the bike 70,125 miles. Never had splitting just gradual wear mostly on the throttle grip. If you use the thin Grip...

    First scratch

Got it. Is there anything broken the panel? If yes, how much would it cost to just replace the panel?

    First scratch

I take it this is the panel that covers the access to the radiator overflow if on the left side. You seemed to indicate your bike is a 2013. If that is the case, are the panels not flat black? Also, you mentioned the fastener was broken. That single fastener if pretty robust and cannot imagine...

More RPM vs speedo but different...maybe

Interesting comments about various member's RPM sweet spots. I have a 2014ES and soon after purchasing new I had the final drive modified using Star Venture parts. That mod reduced my RPM's to where I am running about 4mph faster in 5th gear than with the stock final drive. In addition I run...

    Heated grips.

I have been using Grip Buddies on my last two FJR's. I am using the thin version. As reported here the heat from the grip warmers takes a while to get through. I like the idea of punching some holes in them to let the heat get through.

Tracer 9 GT as FJR Replacement?

Other than my first motorcycle a 1956 Zundapp 200cc 2-cycle all subsequent bikes have been shaft drive. The new Tracer 9 GT+ has great reviews and seems to offer many of the features of the FJR. I however would not by a motorcycle for distance touring with chain drive or belt drive.

    What tire to buy?

Other than the Bridgestone's on the bike from new, I have been running Michelins. First was Pilot Road 2 then Pilot Road 3 and now Road 5. The best mileage I got was on the 2's 12,000 miles. I have 8,000 on the Road 5's and do not think they will go beyond 9,000-10,000. I have a set of Road 6 on...

Is Yamalube 10 w 40 OK in Northern Illinois?

I note the originator of this thread is in Ottawa and the climate there is far different than mine. My 2014 owners manual shows 10w40 and 10w50 recommended for the ambient temps where I live and generally ride. I had been using 10w40 until recently when I discovered 10w50 4T Castrol full...

    Another long journey

Interesting accounts by seniors. My 14ES is about to hit 70,000 miles and has been a pure pleasure to ride. My buddy and I do two long rides each year. We cover the southwest in the spring and the northwest in the fall. At 81 years old I am in good health and hope to be a capable rider for a few...
