2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

It's a holiday weekend too...many of the local campgrounds are full. Some riders hoping for a spot to crash may be disappointed. At least in the fly-over states (NE,KS)

2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

hrm...looking at the spot page... high percentage of the riders are headed towards or in Indianapolis...wonder what bonus location could be there? Maybe they're playing leap-frog on the road and if they all basically see each other...

2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

for Iggy to just barely be out of the top 10 with that little flub is nothing. it could be way worse for him. I'm also really curious about the Leg 1 list. What would make someone think that Key-West wasn't a sucker bonus?

2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

hrm, the Theme is Transportation... the Union Pacific railroad company has it's HQ here (along with loads of picture opportunities around town). total speculation.. and no, I'm not going out to be a spectator. If I were closer to a checkpoint, it'd be neat, but I'm not going to gawk for the...

2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

That or an import dealer may have something? Heck, even getting something from a place like motorcyclegear.com shipped to the checkpoint might work? If you called them directly? #no affiliation I'd offer up my Oxtar's but they're size 43 and during one torrential downpour water seeped in. It...

2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

I can't wait for the end. I really like the video/gif someone usually puts together of the spotwalla thing as the riders progress...maybe someone can set it to the "Ants Marching": song...

2013 Iron Butt Rally - The Inside View

He's doing well. There were a couple of emails back and forth. He's borrowing my GPS as a spare. Said he could wipe it clean if necessary but he thinks it'll just ride all over the country in a case. Fingers crossed, voodoo exercised, prayers sent, rabbit's foot secured.. Safe ride kids...

I can't plan that far in advance. Depends on the job situation. I've put it on my calendar and set up several reminders. I'll call to make the reservations this week.

FJR in the truck for the first time.....

Did you secure/bolt the wheel chock in the truck or is it just sitting in the truck box? It is secure enough to hold the bike while underway or are you going to add a ratchet strap for good measure? Thanks for posting this! I may get one of those wheel chocks now.

    Garmin 2610

I've had this refurbished 2610 sitting on a shelf for a couple of years. I know it's not the newest and it won't have maps newer than 2009, but I can't bring myself to throw it in with the electronics recycling. It can still get you to major waypoints, although if something has closed or...
