Ohlins fork springs not fitting my generation 2 tubes

In this case, it appears that the springs that were in the forks were longer than the replacement Ohlins springs. If so, the new spacer would have to be longer than the spacer it replaces.

Ohlins fork springs not fitting my generation 2 tubes

^^^^^^ The picture appears to be of a spring guide rather than a spacer. A spring guide sits on top of the spring, under the spring washer, and most of it drops into the spring to keep the spring straight during compression. A spacer sits on top of the spring washer and creates space between...

Ohlins fork springs not fitting my generation 2 tubes

There is a critical part in the forks that is adjusted in length when changing springs to compensate for differences in spring length and weight, it's called a "spacer". Your technician sounds like a ..........(fill in the blanks).

Winter rain gear over riding suit, suggestions please

I wear Motoport stretch Kevlar gear and agree that liners under the gear suck, especially the pants. The best over the gear rain gear I have found is made of rip stop nylon. Very compact and long lasting. I bought mine at Costco about 15 years ago and still works great. The downside was they...

    Suspension Tuning - It's a Process!

Agree....but to further answer the question...if the viscosity of fluid A is actually twice that of Fluid B, Fluid A is only going to flow half as much oil as Fluid B if everything else is the same. Most suspension tuners make their money at the track and seem to recommend higher viscosity oil...

    Suspension Tuning - It's a Process!

That's a good question since the top spring is not going to become coil bound and its unlikely the bottom spring will either since it appears to have about 6 evenly placed coils. Is it possible the FSM is wrong?

    Suspension Tuning - It's a Process!

While your explanation of how the system works is correct, the devil is in the details. The OEM shock's upper spring, which is locked out in the hard setting, is not a soft spring. Its actually a 1.5 coil spring that is in the 1800-2000 lb. range and as such will never be coil bound. Sounds...

    Suspension Tuning - It's a Process!

The real confusion on the OEM Shock is that the soft and hard position are not preload settings since the shock is actually a dual spring rate system that does give 2 distinct different spring rates which are not adjustable for spring preload.

GP Suspension 11TH Annual FJR Forum Group Buy

I had a discussion with Barry about the GEN3 forks at Tech day and he claimed that KGH had been able to improve the damping by changing the right fork shim stacks but since KGH was not offering that option for sale I concluded that it was either total BS, the improvements were so small it wasn't...

    Sleeping pad recommendation for camping?

I have camped close to 300 nights from a motorcycle (sometimes in a gravel parking lot) and most of those nights were spent on a Therm-a-rest Basecamp model (75x25x2). However, I find that the $15 6" thick air mattresses are more comfortable and only slightly less bulky to pack. The downside...

Considering Rejoining the FJR Ranks - Question for 2016 ES owners

The inverted forks are a nice improvement and the ES is far better than I expected it to be but it is not designed for a 2-up load in excess of 400 lbs. The damping is still good with a heavy load but excess sag at the back results in pretty slow steering. Not a problem when crusing in a...

Sport Touring on a ZX1400R ABS

Unless things have changed, the Busa does not have a center stand whereas it is an option on the ZX-14. That was a deal breaker/maker for me in selecting the ZX-14.

    Pairing Sena Issues

I have the standard SMH10 and I just push the intercom button after the pairing lights flash and it usually pairs within a couple of seconds, if not try again. However, my SMD10s will NOT pair if the units were previously paired together and one of the units still has the pairing information in...

    Pairing Sena Issues

As I recall when you are pairing 4 together, A pairs to B, C pairs to A or B, and then D pairs to C. It's best for C to be in the 3 position and D in the fourth position or it's easy for the units to get out of range of each other. If A or B loses C then they also lose D.

Sport Touring on a ZX1400R ABS

I used to tour on a 1989 ZX-10 which was very similar in size to a ZX-14 (which I later owned) except the handlebars were about 4 inches higher after adding Genmar handlebar risers. Corbin still made the original gun fighter seats which were very comfortable and the bike came with nice tie...

    So long

This is sad news for those of us that have had the opportunity to interact with you and Janet at various events over the years and I certainly appreciated the efforts you made to make NAFO a success this year. Best wishes and I hope you decide to crash a few FJR events in the future.

Tire Wear Patterns Explained - Dave Moss

Interesting article and pictures but I think it only applies to track tires in a track environment. I have never seen any of those wear patterns in any of the 150-200 tires I have changed in the last 10 years.
