    Aftermarket Rear Shock

I scratch my head when I read comments like yours about the GEN3 shocks but I had a similar experience with the first 13A that I rode in May 2013. It was a demo with very low miles and I started the ride with the shock in the soft position and it felt so under sprung that I changed it to the...

    Aftermarket Rear Shock

^^^^^ That is a really good price!

    western gathering

Yea, there really isn’t much to do if we were to go back there. Probably should confirm that we would not be competing for rooms with a major event and try to pick a week when the temps are below triple digits. I remember making reservations online and then showing up at 7:30 pm a day early...

    western gathering

Agree! Seems like I met you the first time in 2014 at the Village Inn parking lot in Sparks, NV. As I recall we did NOT have a communal dinner, a keg of Beer, Tee shirts, Swag, or group room rates. We did have announced arrival dates (everyone made their own room reservations), kicking tires...

    Aftermarket Rear Shock

I have owned 5 aftermarket shocks and ridden at least a dozen others. My emphasis is on ride quality at speeds within 20 mph of the posted speed limits and my impressions are as follows: Wilbers....high quality shock that comes very under sprung even for solo riders that requires way too much...

    Valve Clearance Question

If you are going to damage the engine by 2 valves being slightly out of spec then it already would have happened. There is always the possibility that the valves are going to tighten further in the next 50-100k miles and will eventually reach the point where you are risking engine damage so the...

    Help! Broken compression valve

The GEN3A models have ALL the damping in the right fork, as such the volume of oil that flows through the GEN3A damping valves is going to be different from the earlier models which had damping in each fork.

    We Have Been Hoodwinked!

WOW...that is good information. I have crossed paths several times with fester and John since 2014 and something just didn’t seem right with that pair although when I met them John was claiming to be the Australian.

Just Purchased a Yamaha Tracer 900 GT This Morning!

To expand a bit on what russperry just posted, I think the biggest negative on using a chain for touring is the uncertainty of how long a chain will last and whether it will survive the next trip. Modern chains normally will last at least 20k miles, 30k is not uncommon, and I have heard of...

    Air Filter

I was finding that only one half of the filter had any dirt at all and it was minimal....so I turned it around and reinstalled it. I’m guessing that the dirt will be uniform over the entire filter when I replace it.

    First sport bike

I am the same size as you and if I were in the market for a “sport bike” I would be looking at something like the GSX-S1000, a slightly detuned version of a GSXR-1000 (which is track bike with lights) that is made for real world riding with high handlebars and a humane siting position.

BMW s1000xr ridden to the max

I test rode one a couple of years ago and was disappointed in the lack of low end power (it is supposed to be a dual purpose adventure bike) and a seat that locks you into one position...not something I would want to tour on or even do a long day ride.

Bike Instability above 70mph on interstate

Your final comment of Almost has the feeling no weight on the front wheel sounds like you may have the situation of so much sag in the back that the front end is extending at speed (all bikes get lighter in the front at speed) and the fork springs are so weak they are not pushing down hard...

    Damn Just damn

I’m always at a loss for words when one of our members writes a beautiful tribute for a friend who has passed and this one hits harder than most because of the short time between diagnosis and the end when it should have been a joyous time for Bob and his family with the beginning of a new...

New Cam Chain Tensioner - how to release spring

Good information...If the new ones will not retract and lock with a screw driver then my above comments are out of date and should be ignored.

New Cam Chain Tensioner - how to release spring

Yes, but release the plunger before you install. The plunger can then be manually retracted and locked by turning the screw clockwise and released after installing with a slight turn counter clockwise....at least this is the way a GEN 1 works (but not the later and improved designs....see...

    K1600 interesting read

I think the OP spent way too much time, dollars, and frustration taking on BMW when he could have resolved it with the dealership by test riding the bike before he accepted delivery given that he (claimed) had given the dealership written instructions that he did not want a K1600 that pulled to...

    Reinstalling camshaft question

For the exhaust camshaft caps start with E2, then E3, E1, finally E. Same order for Intake caps. While the FJR service manual is silent on the order, my C14 service manual is very specific and I would think the order would be the same. Be sure to tighten all 4 caps in stages.

    Reflections on life and death

If you can believe the Internet, cougar attacks are extremely rare...but this would be the second one in Washington this year. Its usually better to be lucky than good but you were both very lucky and very good.

    Parts swap

I think the internal parts that you probably would want to swap are interchangeable. I moved the the cartridges (with GP Suspension damping valves) and springs from my 05 to a 08. It was a straight swap that didn’t require any modifications.
