    10 Year and 102,000 miles

I remember your maiden FJR trip to NAFO in 2008 and your comment that it was a challenge to change 30 years of bad riding habits....fortunately you were a very fast learner.

    Eclipse 2017

I was surprised it wasn't darker at 95-99% blockage but I think a light meter would have shown there was actually a significant change. The pupils in our eyes do a pretty amazing job of compensating for low light.

    2014ES or 2016A?

I voted for the 14ES for the same reason I bought mine (even though I already owned a 13A)....it was the only way to get an FJR with inverted forks. I'm not a big fan of ES because I prefer aftermarket suspension built for my weight and riding style, but have been really impressed how good the...

Screw, Screw, Screw - who posted that they had Nylon Windshield Screws for sale?

Way back when flagstaff bought a 100 pack and was passing them on at cost but I think he sold his FJR and left the Forum.

Senior Nat'l Park Passes rises to $80

You could buy a backup pass and have your bride sign it for you when you get home.

Penske or Ohlins rear for 2007

Penske shocks do not have remote preload adjusters but are very easy to adjust manually. Penske shocks are also custom built (spring weight and valving) for the rider's weight and riding style, Ohlins offers different spring sizes but the valving is one size fits all and seems to be targeted...

Split: Weight limit for ES Model?

Actually I can feel a difference when in soft-2 or soft-3 because there is insufficient rebound damping in the shock, after that very little change all the way to Hard+3 (some change but not much). Its been that way since new. One of my friends, who actually gets paid up to $500 a day as a...

Split: Weight limit for ES Model?

I think a 5mm spacer would be a low cost simple solution but should be approached with caution since it would, as you said, raise the seat height 10mm across all 4 preload settings and the higher seat height might be too tall for some riders when they ride solo. The only mechanical question is...

Split: Weight limit for ES Model?

General rule of thumb is that you can go up two spring sizes (100lb) without having to revalve, the ES with it's 21 different damping positions may be even more flexible (I don't really believe that, I can't tell much difference between soft -1 and Hard +3 on my ES but there are those who report...

North to Alaska 2019 - Once there were Twenty now there are SIX

I did about half the trip with a dozen riders and we never all rode together. Natural groups of 2-4 seem to form after a day and every day turns into a destination ride. Its easy to hook up at the end of the day because the towns are long distances apart and small.

Split: Weight limit for ES Model?

Good question, it was measured at a dealership with preload level 4, saddlebags OFF the bike, with an estimated 175, 225, and 390 lbs. Actual sag measurements were 17, 24, and 49mm, estimated sag with empty saddlebags at those weights would be 21, 28, and 53mm. Estimated sag at 450 lbs was...

Split: Weight limit for ES Model?

The weight limit for the ES or any other FJR is around 440 lbs. However, at that weight the rear sag on the ES will be around 60-62mm which greatly slows the steering, far too much in my opinion. If you are going to load an FJR to its limit, you will get better results by using a after market...

Very nice gesture, wish I could take advantage of it.

Will You Be 62 or Older by Aug 28? Act Fast!

Fixed it for you since the new price will be $80. Thanks for the update, looks like it will be a good idea to invest $10 now and have a backup pass since we Seniors seem to have a problem losing such items.

The Motorcycle Industry is Dying - Bloomberg

Its pretty apparent that motorcycle riders are an aging group simply because so few new (young) riders are buying bikes and a much of that is because of the very limited (affordable) entry bikes that were available on the US market for the last 25 years. Yes, there more entry level bikes than...

BigJohn's Alaskan Adventure - The Trip Begins

My limited experience in riding on dirt roads was taking a full dress touring bike (Yamaha Venture Royale) with trailer to Inuvik and riding the entire length of the Cassiar Highway in one day on a ST1100...in the rain...back in the days when there was 112 miles of gravel. An FJR will do fine...

Airhawk or gel pad. Thats the question.

Back in my Goldwing ownership days I heard really good comments about a Walmart car seat pad, made of soft rubber in a pancake pattern, that only cost $20. Very easy to cut to desired size, changing the cover to the desired size took more work. I used it for several years and then loaned to to...

    Rear shock for 2014 FJR

It's been a while since I sold my Wilber's shock but it had a adjustable ride height nut on the bottom of the shock that changed the position of the shock in the chassis. It was set in the middle position when shipped and had a 5mm adjustment in either direction. The remote preload adjuster...

    Rear shock for 2014 FJR

I'm going to go out on a limb here but most remote preload adjusters only have 10mm of adjustment....at the shock. However, because of the multiplier effect of the rear linkage, the adjustment at the rear seat that changes the rear sag is 20-25mm.

BigJohn's Alaskan Adventure - The Trip Begins

I have never owned a bike with belt drive but from everything I have read, you have to keep them clean because dirt (and especially gravel) will destroy the belt. The Dempster highway, which is all dirt, sand, mud, and gravel will be a good test.
