What did you do to your FJR today?

I moved it so I could get my ladder out.

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

I apologize. The above statement is both sloppy and meaningless. I blame it on the product of rushing off a post late at night without carefully thinking about it. It makes no difference what the length of the spanner is. If the axis of the spanner is perpendicular to the torque wrench at the...

Yes, the bearing still feels smooth. Hudson left the stock headset bearing in there.

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

The first torque setting is 37 ft-lbs, then fully loosen the nut, then the second torque setting is 13 ft-lbs. The torque arm of the torque wrench itself is 17". The torque arm of the torque wrench with a spanner at 90 degrees with 3" arm is 17.25". This is within 1.5% which is better than...

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

I bought and received a castle nut socket for the FJR. It came from mcatrophy's side of the pond so it took awhile to get here. It's simple to use and you apply torque from the center rather than off to the side like you do with a spanner. My headset is now correctly torqued and it made a...

Not a "Reuben Run or The Last Hurrah" - Gauging Interest on a First Annual " Why Not? " in Lapine, OR

JP and Melanie have generously made several phenomenal Friday meals and Bend makes it more convenient for them. But will Joel be willing move the Saturday banquet to either Bend or Prineville?

If you couldn't have an FJR what would be the next best thing?

In response to the "next best thing," I would want a 1968-70 Austin Mini Cooper S because I owned a 1967 and the '68 on had roll up windows. Sure it's not a motorcycle, but that thing was a street legal go kart. I was 6'2" and triple dated in that car when I was 18. I'm 70 years old now and...

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

I always find your comments and write-ups to be useful, well thought out, and informative. I also have lost 1.5 inches in height. The waist circumference, however, continues to increase. When I get into the 60 to 90 mph range the wobble seems to go away. I haven't tried above that.

My new front tire balanced with no weight. I run 39/42 and have for years.

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

I slid the forks up 4mm in the triple trees. I found an easy way to do that without removing the front wheel. If I use my imagination (and I use my imagination a lot because I imagined Penelope Cruz was riding as my passenger) I can see a slight improvement and, once started, the wobble damps by...

Good idea. He seemed to have done everything else. He made several improvements to that bike.

The Ohlins doesn't have ride height adjustment.

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

I wonder if bar end weights would work to reduce the effect.

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

Blow-up passengers tend to be blow-away passengers as well. I suppose I could fill a red hot, overly made up, scantily-clad, blow-up doll with body temperature water.

Side bags on. 42k miles. Only 600 miles are mine so I just started experimenting with it.

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

I have a jumbo Givi Monokey but I don't know which model so I don't know the volume. I had heard of the aerodynamic theory but Swollen Racoon apparently has good reason to think it may be the explanation. Given the shape of the Givi I would be more likely to believe that side-to-side forces are...

    Top box induced handlebar wobble

I have a new-to-me 2008 FJR. I have recently been fighting a problem with handlebar wobble which I noticed when I briefly took my hands off the grips at 30mph to tighten my glove straps. I found this oscillation at almost any speed on almost any surface if I removed my hands from the grips. The...

What did you do to your FJR today?

I continued slowly turning Hudson's 2008 into my own.

Not a "Reuben Run" but "The Last Hurrah" - Labor Day Weekend 1-5 September 2022

Negative Covid test. Positive experience at the Last Hurrah. Thanks Big John, JP, and everyone who made the trek to honor Ray Slocomb. Thanks to Ray, Patti, and Shirley who made this possible.

Not a "Reuben Run" but "The Last Hurrah" - Labor Day Weekend 1-5 September 2022

John- Although I am currently sans motorcycle, I plan to cage it down on Thursday in time for the giant reuben-fest. I have a room and have already paid for the Saturday dinner. See you tomorrow.
