    Ebay special Kawai H2SXSE

Because you can order it with optional hard saddle bags and it weighs 591 lbs. Maybe it’s a hyper sports tourer. Too heavy to be called a sport bike.

Incriments On The Fjr Temp Gauge

Three bars on a Gen 2 at steady speed on a cold day (less than 40F) is normal for my bike too. Coolant temperature would be around 160F, controlled by the thermostat. That’s not from measurement, but from deduction.

    Specific brake fluid

If your bike has ABS, you should change out the fluid, activate the ABS system, and change out the fluid again. This helps to prevent corrosion of the ABS pump and keeps it working for a long time.

    E15 / Unleaded 88 in 2008 FJR1300

I run E10 in my FJR1300 except for winter storage where I fill it with pure gas because it stores longer before going bad. I would never run more than 10% ethanol in any vehicle because alcohol causes fuel system corrosion problems- that’s based on information from an engineer friend that works...

    Bike Wont Start

When you speak with the supervisor, ask him if the gas was tested and if so what was chemically bad, and if the testing was performed by an independent lab. If the gas wasn’t tested, ask him how they can determine it was bad.

Is Yamalube 10 w 40 OK in Northern Illinois?

Rotella 5W-40 T6. Inexpensive and widely available. Contains a healthy dose of ZDDP, JASO MA and MA-2 approved, and the detergent package keeps your motor parts very clean.

    Turn signal cancellation mechanism?

My 1983 Yamaha Turbo came with self canceling turn signals. Seems like Yamaha lost their notes. I don’t understand why a modern bike wouldn’t have them.

    Bike Wont Start

As to the speculation about bad gas causing this mess, I recall that BP had a local problem with contaminated gasoline a few years ago. The gas had some type of plastic base chemical contaminant that ruined a bunch of car engines. BP took responsibility quickly and paid for the damage. However...

    Bike Wont Start

Can you explain how the PAIR system failure could cause oil to go down the intake ports? I looked at the service manual, but I can’t understand how. The air induction goes from the airbox to the reed valves to the exhaust port. If the crankcase vents excess oil to the airbox, the oil can go down...

    Bike Wont Start

if they didn’t send out a sample of gas from the tank for a chemical analysis, I wouldn’t believe their assumption that the carbon buildup was caused by bad gas. Take a sample yourself and have it analyzed.

    Bike Wont Start

That’s an unusual amount of carbon on the pistons for the mileage. What do the plugs look like? Does your bike get normal gas mileage around 40-45 mpg? Was the oil overfilled? Is there oil or heavy carbon on the backside of the intake valves? It’s possible that your oil rings are allowing oil up...

    FJR1300 Oil

Does the bike need a cat to run properly or will it throw a code?

Drive train "crashing" when engaged on a cold engine

The reason the transmission clunks when you put it in gear on a cold engine is simple. It’s because the oil viscosity is high (thick) when cold and this causes excess viscous drag between the plates when you pull the clutch. Try a 5W-40 oil like Rotella T6 To minimize the clunk. The first API...

    Clutch Slipping on 08

It could be a problem with the slave cylinder, clutch friction plates or spring.
  15. D

    Clutch question

The clutch is very durable. The clutch started slipping after about 50,000 miles on my 2006 AE. I replaced the friction plates and spring, but that didn’t fix it. It was a sticking clutch slave cylinder. I measured the thickness of the original friction discs and they were well within...

    Unfortunately, motorcycle recalls do expire.

    Just bought my 1st FJR

Look on the steering neck of your bike. When the recall is completed, the mechanic is supposed to punch marks on the frame. If you don’t see punch marks, the recall likely wasn’t done. That was the case for my bike. Yamaha said recall was done by VIN #, dealer in Wisconsin got paid, but in...

    Just bought my 1st FJR

In my case, Yamaha decided not to do the recall. Wound up doing it myself with new eBay parts. I’m sure they’ll tell you it’s beyond their time window for them to cover it.

    Just bought my 1st FJR

Make sure the two recalls were done on your 2006 FJR. Ignition switch and sub harness for the ground wiring.

    Harley Davidson Mistake

If it still makes loud engine noises, then it’s likely tearing itself apart. It may not blow up, but wearing out prematurely. I’d drain the oil and send in a sample for analysis. The type and amount of metal in the oil may help pinpoint the problem area that needs to be fixed.
