PNW Spring Tech Meet #16 - May 14th

That sure was a fun Tech Day. Many thanks to Bryan and Marissa. I saw a decent number of new faces, and counted 22 FJR's, 1 R1, and an R100 at one point. We were also graced with a visit by Bobby Blue, who looks like a guy who got a new lease on life! I even got to schedule a play date with...

    05 Poor Idle When Cold

Yeah, that warmup behavior is all wrong. How does the bike ride?

I have a pair of them sitting in my attic, PM me and we can work out the details.

    2016 ES check engine light

Standardization. OBD codes are the same across all manufacturers, which makes it much easier to figure out what a given code means (no need to consult the FSM). There's also a nice amount of additional information available from the OBD interface (usually), to run third party applications like...

Feedback Please on my Craigslist Ad

Your price, in my opinion, is high enough to prevent the bike from selling. Pull the lights off and sell the separately, then lower the price accordingly. I'd also pull the saddle and do a trade/sale for some cash and a stock seat, then lower the price a little more. If you can defarkle and...

Good deal listed in a weird place - 08 FJR Seattle

This looks like a good deal on an '09: https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/mpd/5539412265.html It's listed in the parts section, which is a little odd. It also looks like there might be GP stickers on the front forks.

    FJR vs M109 Susuki

It's funny that nobody has really brought up the V-max, which is one of the few cruisers that in stock form should outrun an FJR in the 1/4 mile (barely). The Diavel looks to be a little quicker also in the 1/4 mile.

PNW Spring Tech Meet #16 - May 14th

This is a pretty long, intensive process that is pretty involved. There are a few of us floating around who can host you on another Saturday to complete this project, but it's entirely possible that you'll run out of time during a tech day.

How Would YOU Sell This Bike?

In my opinion, the willingness of buyers to purchase bikes with ~100,000 miles is pretty absent. Having said that, you might get $1000-2000 as is, but probably more like $2500 if the ABS is the only issue. If it's just a new clutch you need, then it may be worth the trouble.

    Other Polycarbonate windshield manufacturers...

Yeah, my V-stream would be the first windshield I would get rid of. In fact, I think I'll grab it next time I'm up in the attic and get it on eBay.

    Other Polycarbonate windshield manufacturers...

Impact resistant acrylic is generally made with a modified polymer, which will certainly improve its strength, but certainly not to the level of poly-carbonate. Do keep in mind that poly-carbonate is considerably softer than acrylic and will scratch more easily without the ability to be...

CalSci large windscreen for a Gen 1 FJR

I have a bunch of windscreens for my Gen1, and the large CalSci is the one that I haven't ever taken off!

    Coolant drain bolt

Mine leaked the last time I tried to reuse it. I have some of that universal white sealing goop, and a tiny blob on the screw threads fixed the problem.

    2006 Gen II coolant change

Zerex Asian/Pentafrost A4 (Toyota Pink) or Pentafrost A3 (Honda blue) coolants are good choices that aren't too tough to find. There are a lot of OCD inspired processes devised for this particular piece of maintenance.

    Throttlemeister Gap

I have kind of a funky gap on mine, but it functions correctly so I don't worry about it.

Caution with Throttle Spring Unwind Mod

I think you'd need to take the throttle bodies off to snip the spring and bend a new loop.
