    Another Word About Octane

Back when I had my '98 E38 (740il) BMW, I attended a performance workshop hosted by tuner Steve Dinan. The E38 was tuned to require 91 octane but he said that the ECU would compensate for higher octane and would increase HP and torque a small amount with 93 or 94. I went to other way and ran 89...

    Compassion

The room was full of pregnant women with their husbands. The instructor said, "Ladies, remember that exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial - strengthens the pelvic muscles and will make delivery that much easier. Just pace yourself, make plenty of stops and try to stay on...

    Nitron R1 Shock

I'm still riding the stock shock @ 45k miles on my '08 on the firm setting. At 170 lbs. in street clothes and riding solo it still works OK for general riding but turn up the juice on a bumpy road and it shows its age. On the other hand, I did the fork right after I bought it (used with 14K)...

First Year Assessment of My 2016

The last two years I've spent 90% of my riding on my DR650 simply because dual sporting scratches that itch right now but every few weeks when I take my '08 out for a spin I'm reminded of what a really great bike the FJR is. I get used to the DR's some what crude demeanor and thumper character...

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

See ^^^. I plead the 5th as to who's car fender flair it was or who was driving!

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

It was a very strong lateral load that ripped it off, as in a car fender flair catching the back edge of the bag and pulling it off the bike! I'm guessing that under normal operating conditions, the bag is not subjected to THAT kind of stress!

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

I didn't really think through the primary purpose of the tab but after thinking about how the bag mounts and imagining some force vectors that would act on it, I can see that the tab is basically a 'wedge' to keep the bag from bouncing up off the hangers as you say with not much lateral load...

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

Thanks Gents, the bag still looks pretty good minus a few deep scratches mostly on the painted lid so the hope of a workable repair is the first option. A used bag (and swapping the lid if needed) is the next option if whatever repair I attempt does not seem to be satisfactory.

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

It's really tight, may be able to reinforce using .02-.03" sheet metal. I'll look closer at this idea!

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

The tab is still 'hanging on by a thread' and is cracked right at the bottom when it is extended, flush with the case. I do have some ABS glue on hand if that would be the appropriate adhesive to use but am not sure if a 'glue fix' is strong enough for the tab to do it's job. Perhaps gluing it...

    Saddlebag latching tab broken

After a fair bit of internet searching, I am pretty sure the plastic tab that pops up to lock the bag to the bike is non-repairable. My left bag got ripped off the bike which in turn cracked the tab to the point that it is almost completely snapped off and is useless. Now before I go out and...

    Brake fade 2009 ABS

Do what they^^^^said and also do this: find a way to hold down the rear pedal firmly & the front brake lever (due to the linked feature) for at least 24 hours. You will have a nice firm rear brake for quite a while. Rinse and repeat if it starts to get a little soft again. I've bled mine every...

    WSBK Test at Jerez

Yikes! Johnny Rea in testing went faster than the MotoGP pole time from this past season! Best rider on an even better bike does not bode well for the competition next year!

    Battry tender connection pain

A good reason to run a fuse block; Hook it up once and put it in a convenient place to reach to attach all your goodies to (also keeps the battery terminals tidy by not having to attach everything to them).
