    Motorcycle Insurance

Progressive has pretty good incentives for multiple bike policies. They are who I use.

    Wiring Harness Needed

Hi Brodie, Thanks for the reply. I don't have a pic of it, but it is the connector that connects the harness to the ECU. The same one you have to take apart to do the Barbarian Mod for the CO Adjustment. I can take a pic of it if you need me to. Joe

    impressive sliders

As I posted eariler in this thread, the bolts are low quality and I had to re-thread mine in order to keep from stripping out the threads on the engine. I like their kit. The bolts suck. Don't force them in or you're going to regret it. If the bolt won't thread easily into the engine, you...

    CO Adjustments

Any chance an Admin can let me back in my post to note the time bases are incorrect? ....or can do it themselves?

    CO Adjustments

Good catch on the timebase error. It is the software that I am using to view the recorded files. It's definitely buggy. The elapsed time is around 30 seconds. The software goofs up when I change zoom levels. Sorry about that. I didn't see it until you pointed it out. Before I ever put a...

    CO Adjustments

I got to fool around with the bike a littel more today. I learned a few more interesting things. While not part of the diagnosis, I noticed that the FJR adds enrichment with asynchronous pulses, and widely varied injection pulses. What that means in english, is that rather than simply turning...

    Wiring Harness Needed

Anyone have any idea where I might be able to get one? I have been looking online for a salvage yard with a wrecked one, hoping they might part with a harness or connector. No luck yet. Anyone know where I might be able to source a new connector from whoever made it for Yamaha? I don't need...

Bike won't start due to carbon build-up

While possible, it is extremely unlikely that this is the problem with the bike. I'd get my bike the heck out of there right now. If not, you're most likely going to spend a lot of money and still end up with a bike that doesn't run. Joe

    Odd Death of a Battery?

As the others have stated, you probably didn't do anything to cause this, but give the system a good check once you put a new battery in. Check the charging voltage, then switch the multimeter to AC to read if there is any AC leakage. AC voltage should be well under half a volt. My 2 cents...

    CO Adjustments

My bike does 3 things I'm not happy with, but I believe they are all fuel related. Idles rough. The engine is rich when this is happening. Surges at steady throttle between 1000-3000 RPMs. The surge cycles steadily at a rate of twice every 5 seconds or so. It will do this as long as the...

    CO Adjustments

Hi Lucas. What you are describing is exactly what I'm trying to cure. I need to finish diagnosing it first though. Joe

    Top Case Weight Requirements

I have a stock Yamaha top bag, and it has a backrest on it. If I can only load 11 pounds in it, I can't imagine that it would hold up to being used as a backrest. Hard accelerations and bumps alone would put WAY more weight than that on it, no? Joe

    CO Adjustments

Now....is that polite!? Is THAT how you go about getting yourself invited!? My mother was right about the things she said about motorcyclists. I didn't believe it until now. :D

    CO Adjustments

Hi Fred, Yes, the numbers show very rich at idle, with a real lean spot above idle that disappears abruptly at 3000 RPMs, which is the same time the surge disappears . If you have a PCIII, have you tried the smoothness map I've seen talked about here? I did some reading on it today in the...

    CO Adjustments

I may end up doing this, but I really doubt there is that juch variation between the cylinders. If there is, then there must be something seriously wrong with the Yamaha Induction or Fuel Systems...and I have trouble believing that at the moment. When it comes to diagnosing vehicles, I'm never...

    CO Adjustments

The price of this stuff is definitely hard to justify for personal use. It'd be WAY cheaper to employ someone that already owned it. For the record, the FGA is a bit more than twice the price of the VP, and requires around $400.00 in sensors every year or so. Joe

    CO Adjustments

Good ideas. I don't have an adapter to check fuel pressure. I probably ought to check it, but it leans out SO quickly when you climb above 1500 RPMs, I'm still guessing programming. Hig fuel pressure should give rich readings across the RPM range, but less at they climb....theoretically...

The scope and gas bench are both Snap-on products. The scope is a Vantage-Pro and the gas bench is their Flexible Gas Analyzer, but being viewed with a Modis. These all run Windows CE. I like the gas bench because it is portable. It can be used going down the road. You can even add a tach...
