    2022 Yamaha FJR

I love that the FJR stays alive for another year! I know it's just a matter of time because they are painting it BLUE (AGAIN).

    3rd Gen Idle speed problems

My 2013 was exhibiting 'smoothness issues' and I ignored it as along as possible.  Then I did the TPS replacement (with help from NBB) . My buddies 2014 was exhibiting big shifting smooth 'issues' and he fought with it. We did the TPS together and his first response was ' I got a new bike...

    Clock Resetting/changing time

KISS ... every time we see an electrical issue ... it's 30+ tries to find a bad/weak connection somewhere hard to reach.  This bike (my 2003 was similar) just needs a strong battery!!! Every time I hear about a bad wiring issue, it's usually not... just a tired battery and the FJR wants a NEW...

Western Wisconsin - Late September Photos

Ditto the weather ... we had a COG ride to Dodgeville last weekend and saw 80' and sunny most of the weekend.  Love the alphabet roads too!

    Ivan's ECU Flash

I think he may be on vacation ... and/or dodging the Feds looking at ECU modifiers. I am very happy with my 2013.  Smoother shifts and unlimited CC!

    Funky Shifting

On the first shift out of neutral... I upshift to 2nd.  No clunk.   From then on, I clutch and count to 2 or 3.  No clunk all day.  Shift around 4k = snick right into gear.   It seems to like some pressure on the shifter ... and very little clutch pull.

    Solitary Rally in Wisconsin

Love the RR.  LMK when you want to lead a group of 'followers' too. MN riders love to ride WI roads!

    2005 Oil viscosity

I realize it's just my opinion ...  and everybody has one ... But since it's water-cooled I run a 10/40 weight all year long.  The fan comes on about 200' anyway.  Keep in mind I may have to start it some Spring or Fall morning around 32' ...  and I just got back from Alabama where it was 96'...

    1st cross country ride

Ross is right ... 40/42 is the best for most FJR tires.  Sometimes I go up to 42/44 if you are running long and fast and/or hot. Higher pressures = cooler running tires.  BTW ... rarely do pressure gauges agree, so I err on the +2 high side.

    1st cross country ride

Drink lots of water ... NOT coffee or pop.   Ride early in the day ... stop early for the night.  Maybe take some vitamin I ... Ibuprofen for a sore leg , arm or butt.  Try to ride North from Durango CO (or South into it) on #550 ( Million Dollar Hwy).  Keep your eyes moving ... and know how...

Spark plug and brake hoses replacement interval per manual

Do the plugs whenever you are in there for a valve check ... 25k + I wish I did the fluids as often as it says in the book... maybe that's why some older FJR's no longer have working ABS.

    Memorial Day Tire Bargains

Amazon had a nice price on 2 PR2s for $220 a day or so ago.   Rocky Mtn ATV had PR4 GT for $325 set ...  so I bought those.     YMMV

Oh no he didn’t!! Yes it’s a tire thread.

Michelin's are great tires ... but tend to be a softer ride (even GT).  I always suggest you 'Pump them up' to near the max pressure (40/42) to avoid the scalloping beyond belief.     YMMV

    Prospective future owner… Hi!

Whoops, Nice pic of a nice bike!!!       More pics please. Don't follow your name-sake and start it in gear, then drive it forward off a cliff!!!  Then we'll start calling you 'Cliff'.

    WOT cures it

My buddy bought a used 2014 and it was perfect ... until the stumble just off idle showed up.  He even killed it a few times. We adjusted the clutch lever, replaced the brass bushing, ran chemicals thru it, bled the clutch fluid, and still stumbled off idle. GET A NEW TPS! I said and helped him...

    51,003 Miles and first failure

I had an 'issue' going off-road after missing a decreasing radius turn in TN somewhere.  I saw a tree coming fast so chose to lay it down in the soft grass.  The grass wasn't very soft, but my tank bag and windshield both came off and rolled to a stop close together.  After I gathered myself...

    Givi V46 Affects Handling

Honda was warning folks decades ago about a 'high speed wobble' due to the bubble of air over a larger top box.  I've gone very fast with no issues.   Try firmer suspension, air up the tires, tighten the steering head , and ride with a bag on the rear seat to deflect bad air.  I often ride with...

    2003 and 2006

For a 'First model' the 2003 (2002 in EU) was a marvel of engineering! Lightest and fastest (and prettiest) of all FJRs due to higher gearing and less weight. Very few 'tickers' otherwise NO issues.  The 2006 was a Gen2 'First model' and many of the 'improvements' needed improvement. Throttle...
