How old is too old when buying a tire?

My brother refused to spend the money on his used ST1300 for new tires. I went to ride with him (in another state) and found he was riding on 13 year old Bridgestones (not great to begin with). He said the tread is still good, but I said the checking and cracking and dryness is bad for...

    Pros/Cons of the 6th gear?

Rpms are always relative.  I find if you up-shift @ 4500 -6000 normally ...  then droning down the freeway @ 3500 -5000 seems totally normal .

    2004 FJR Engine heat

Ural, You will love the FJR!!!  I went from the Connie to the FJR with my 2003, and added Genmar bar risers (or similar) taller shield, and a custom seat too.  https://www.ebay.com/p/1064709993    Get this heat shield and wear pants and you will be fine.  If it's over 90' just tip your left leg...

    Pros/Cons of the 6th gear?

When I was younger ... my 2nd car was a 1969 Chevy Chevelle (Wagon) with a 3 (speed) on the tree.  I even taught my mom how to drive a stick with it. Now my Buick has a 4speed auto and my Chrysler has a 6 speed auto.  I prefer the steadier, constant power of the 4 speed. My Connie (first ST)...

    New (to me) 2014 FJR

Try riding it in Touring mode for a while.  Get used to the body position, foot position, wind flow, weight shifting, speed shifting... then on a wide open straight road, switch it to Sport mode and wick it up.  Hold on and aim high in vision 'cause you'll get there in a hurry!

    PIAA slim horns

I bought the 'similar' Freeway Blaster horns @ NAPA.  2 different frequencies and sounds like my Buick. I seem to remember it came with a small L mounting bracket in the box.  Or you can make one from a 90' bracket.  Run a second wire over the radiator and wrap it well (wet spot).  No extra...

    FZ-1 Owner coming over

Bags often show up for sale ... probably cheaper than from Mama Yamaha.  https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/mpo/d/saint-paul-yamaha-luggage-liners/7115446337.html These are in Minnesota.     Enjoy the new ride!

    Securing Devices in Top Case

You need a 'bag within a bag' approach.  Try using a tank bag to hold the phone ... in a top case.   I wrap mine into my rainsuit for safety. I use a saddle bag liner (Concours) to hold stuff in my top case.  I line it with bubble wrap and/or rubber tool shelf liner and wrap my laptop computer...

    Sluggish throttle return

I remember a tip to unwind the return spring to 'soften' the return pressure.  Maybe check the return spring in case it 'unwound' once on it's own.

    "Dirt" tires on an FJR

I think Michelin makes a 'Trail' version of the PR4 that is made for ADV type rides. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/michelin-pilot-road-4-trail-tires              https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/michelin-anakee-3-tires?rrec=true  My guess is it costs more but may be a better ride...

Soo close I can taste it!

Risers are definitely first.  Then custom seat and windshield ... in that order.   Enjoy the process.

... and taught us all a valuable lesson.    Good example of what I might have done wrong too.    TIA for helping us all.

I'm interested in your opinions, Me, I'm pissed!

Seats , windshields and clothing...  are so unique  that everybody wants to 'try it before you buy it'. I know this so I (hardly) never buy clothing without trying it on.  The used seats and windshields out there are out there because someone didn't like it. That's your first (3) question ...

Nowthen Tech Day IX April 25th

NNNNOOOOooooooooo ... don't say like that .   I'm in.   Maybe I'll bring some Corona (beer) and Lime (not disease).  Seriously, I still can't get my rear brake lever hard.  Maybe some help on the front caliper bleed can get it up for me.        CU soon, roger

    Fly and Ride 17 FJR

I had the Yamaha case on my 2003. Loved the matching key, super sturdy construction too ... 'cause it has a double wall and shrinks the inside to only hold 1 helmet and little else.  Now I have the Givi 55 and easily holds 2 helmets plus even more!  2nd key and butt ugly black but I never have...

What did you do to your FJR today?

NBB, I picked up the tabs on Friday, removed the covers and installed them on Saturday, and went for a 60 mile ride in 60 ' temps on Sunday!!! I stayed on clean(er) 2 lane roads and checked out my route for an up-coming ride in April.  The bike was fully charged, and she started on the first...

    Future FJR Owner

Nothing wrong with the C14.  It may have a little more zip up high. I love my 2013 FJR with a 5 spd. It may have a little more grunt down low and in the middle. The suspension was improved also in Gen3s ... 2013 + ... as well as the CC, heated grips, drive modes, etc.  If you wanna save $, buy...
