    Any FJR's in Hawaii?

As a p.s., you guys think that Hawaii is small for riding bikes? I was stationed on Guam for 18 months back in 1965. I bought my first 'motorcycle' while there. Guam is very beautiful, although I think a bit more tropical than Hawaii with varied landscape - even has a small mountain. After...

    Any FJR's in Hawaii?

I'm sorry to hear that. Thank you so much for your service to the country. God bless you and keep you safe.

Why is nothing wrong with my bike?

Don't really know if their numbers are accurate, but MCN states in their October issue that "In the last 12 months 10,800 FJRs were sold in the United States, making Yamaha the No. 2 sport-touring brand with 26.2% of that segment. As far as Yamaha's brag about the self adjusting EFI mapping to...

Why is nothing wrong with my bike?

Bob, I'm glad that you and many others have no complaints. I enjoyed my 03 for 5 years and also had no complaints. I didn't have the tick, but I wouldn't say I was lucky, I would rather think that the owners of tickers were/are unlucky. As far as the heat goes, because of the information on...

Why so many FJRs for sale

There is a spring on each of the 4 throttle bodies. That is why we can disconnect the main, heavy spring. Either you are misreading the threads that say there are no springs other than the main heavy or the authors don't know what they are talking about. I have been using throttle locks on my...

Why so many FJRs for sale

Try disconnecting the spring. Worked for me. Also Grip Puppies (CASPORTTOURING DOT COM) cheap and effective. A throttle lock helps big time. If you unwrap the spring all the way, you will have to use the Throttlemeister for a lock. It's very good anyways, but pricey. Or you can install a...

Why is nothing wrong with my bike?

False issue? Failure of ignition switch on the old RSTDs? Sometimes while underway? Now, that's a scary time! Mine failed 3 times. Failure of ignition switch on the FJR? A friend got stranded atop a mountain at the WFO this year. They had to 'tow' the bike to a dealer. Tickers? I'll bet...

Why is nothing wrong with my bike?

Rumor has it that there will be no K8 in the DL1000 model. At least they (Kaw) haven't announced one. This bike is a real weird duck and very basic, so I think I'm going to have a good time with it. Only downside I can see is the chain drive. I haven't owned a chain drive since my 1968...

Then you have what some refer to as a Generation I FJR. Changes were made starting in 2006, thus Gen II. Prior to that the bike was pretty much unchanged, except for larger rotors and ABS option.

Why is nothing wrong with my bike?

Well Bob, After seeing your photos, I don't think that will happen with the FJR, since it really goes well with the color scheme on the house. I also saw that you have enjoyed many nice bikes, including a Silver Wing, which I wouldn't mind checking out one day. I never heard anyone say they...

Why is nothing wrong with my bike?

I thought the FJR was a keeper also, but then I like to try new things once in a while. The FJR (number 376 was a totally new thing for me and many others back in 2002) I bought a GL1800 about a year and a half ago on a whim even though I had never ridden a Wing and really grew to like it...

    Tire Wear Question:

I agree with the 41 or 42 psi on the tires. As far as the Avons go, many love 'em. I liked them myself, but I got the dreaded cupping. Some folks do and some folks don't.

Why is nothing wrong with my bike?

I don't know, but I must be really lucky because I rode my FJR for 5 years and never had an issue with it (except for wearing out tires and one set of fork seals, which Yamaha replaced for free). I finally just got bored and sold the darned thing

    Tire Wear Question:

Some people wear them out in 3k miles. I usually sqeeked by at around 6-7k miles. Each rider and tire are different. My last set of tires were Avon Azaros. Love Avon Azaros when they are new. Hate Avon Azaros when they are a bit worn (front tire). They get weird cupping and then if you let...

    My quiet FJR

Personally like the sound of aftermarket pipes on the FJR. Not real loud, just deep and mellow, plus they weigh a lot less. I put Dale Walker cans on my FJR and rode many miles with them. Not a problem at all for me. Windage created a lot more buzz in the ears than pipes. I don't see how...

Why so many FJRs for sale

How do everyone know that the new and improved models aren't potential tickers? Actually this ticking issue is a bunch of ********. Yes, there have been a relative few tickers, but the vast majority have not developed the tick and Yamaha fixed the tickers on their dime. I just sold my '03...

    Clean my motorcycle

I like the Mr. Clean. Must be using too much water, since it should last quite a while. It's basically a poor man's water softener. On the road I bring a can of Lemon Pledge and a few rags. Works pretty good. Besides, a clean bike is a gay bike.
