Upsizing Rear Tire to 190/55 (w/ pics)

If unused rubber were the overriding issue, I would have to be a darksider. I don't care what anyone says. I have used them for the last 42,000 miles. I found the FJR's peg/ground clearance to be substantially less than on my under powered, vibrating, rough 1993 K100RS. In fact, I found the...

    Installed a Constant-Record Dashcam on My '05

That is AWESOME! So, my question is... Do you take ALL those farkles off every time you park that rolling command post?

    Motus Motorcycle Now In Production

IF I had the cash I would still go for this over the BMW 6. I don't care what the magazines try to convince me of, NOTHING with 6 cylinders is a SPORT-tourer.

Is there a Correlation Between MPG and Tire Mileage?

Heat is the biggest problem for tires. Speed creates heat. All things being equal, any tire will wear less in the cold of winter. The other issue is the un-noticed violence with which the tread surface slams into the road surface. The faster the impact, the more force there is.

Shifting problem - stuck in second

once moving, you should be able to shift into any gear. The clutch is probably not your problem. Lubing the shifter,s pivot point will most likely be the solution.

    03 FJR

I own an 03 with 140,250 miles on it. What do you mean, "opened up a few areas"? This is a counter-intuitive fact; to make an FJR run "cooler" (meaning cooler to you) you actually close up a bunch of areas. Specifically, the areas between the fairing and the frame/engine. The hot air tends...

    Zero-Dark-Thirty encounter

I think this forum best suits this story. The brand of motorcycle was never confirmed. I hope you find humor in it. OK, so I am going to work the other day. It is a ride, just a short one, only 56.3 miles. It is very early, pitch black early. I am going up a grade I have to go over every...

Upsizing Rear Tire to 190/55 (w/ pics)

Michelin PR4. The reason is the type of riding. Almost all slab, almost all commute. 57 miles one way, every day. The pavment is very smooth and not very abrasive. When I go up and down 58 or other twisty favorites, I can almost see the wear changing every 50 miles or so, lots of chip-seal...

What did you do to your FJR today?

I am close. My friend has an extra rear wheel and I have a motorcycle shop that will put it on. Then I can switch back and forth as needed. I just need to figure out which tire, but that is a question for another thread.

What did you do to your FJR today?

    1. it reduces the speedo error 2. it lasts AT LEAST the same percentage longer as is its circumference is larger 3. the additional width keeps the footpegs just a little higher reducing dragging when I do canyon carve (which I like, I just have a hard time finding to do,this part of 58&229 is...

Upsizing Rear Tire to 190/55 (w/ pics)

Just mounted my fourth. I got 13,032 miles out of this one. I like the way they help to prevent dragging footpegs.

Bought my last bike - Big FJR

Congratulations on your purchase. Now, you can legitimately say excuse me while I wax my couch. I love that picture of the Wing and the FJR together. THAT is the difference between a TOURING bike and a SPORTS-touring bike!

    Real men ride TrialsCross

I kinda liked it. The perfect imperfect. He rides crazy off road like I ride. Roughly.

What did you do to your FJR today?

First, rode hard up 58 to 229, then turned around and went back, even toughed a footpeg down. Used some of my unused side rubber. -Then- Got a new 190/55 PR4 put on. Cost 243.52. Last one lasted 13,032 miles, almost all slab.

Good Place to Buy Helmets in San Diego?

I would highly recommend finding the one who deals with Nolan. Great quality, reasonable price. I have two. If you want to come up to Pismo I will let you try on my old XXL N90 (liner washed) and my Current XL N91. Then you can order online with confidence.

Possible Terrible Idea - Rear view camera

I have paddled my backwards into 3 cars over the years. All mine or a house guest's. My interest in the camera is to loose the giant ungainly mirrors. This requires a reflective substitute to work with the cam though.

Possible Terrible Idea - Rear view camera

I was thinking that this might be a cool idea. The issue is deleting the stock mirrors, or what good is the what good is the camera if it doesn't take the place of the mirrors. The issue then becomes one of blind spots. Well I figured out a possible solution. Tiny 'vestigial' mirrors that...

What did you do to your FJR today?

I rode it. (daily thing) To Bakersfield. (yuk) To help my brother with his Saturn. (glad I could help) On Highway 58 BOTH ways. (OH YEAH!)

    90* valve stem issue

I agree, the rubber 90 stems are bad for the FJR. A single HIGH speed run can force the stem down to the point where it is leaking air. I had this happen to me once. 40 pounds of air one minute 15 pounds of air at the next exit. Valvestem was the only leak and only when I pushed it down...
