    Oil filter

Motorcop20, After you punch and drain the oil from the filter, you can use a hammer and a sharp chisel to make a cleft in the outside rim of the filter at the base. Switch to a blunt chisel or a drive punch to do the real work, driving the oil filter rim counterclockwise. You only need to...

    Newbie From North Carolina

Welcome to the FJR sandbox! Been riding long? Crazy weather lately, hot and dry here in Utah. If you have a flood you don't need, just send it here. We can help with most technical issues; the FJR doesn't need much.

What did you do to your FJR today?

Nimnifnof, How old were those new tires, when you bought them? Sometimes the sellers are dumping old stock at a discount. Tire age decoder - click the link, and scroll down: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=11

What Do You Wish You Could Transport On Your Bike?

Geezer, Nope! Not for me! I think it may be possible to load and carry something large on a bike, but the turbulence from a tractor-trailer could put the bike into the wrong lane at the wrong time. That means the risk outweighs the rewards. Foolish bet, with too much to lose.

Mr.Dollar, To each his own, no problem. I wanted to suggest that you might check out the vinyl wraps (3M, et c.) to repair your Triumph plastics, as an alternative to paint. Repair and sand smooth the plastics, then apply films. YouTube can show you how, even for complex shapes.

    Spongy brakes

Good advice on cycling the ABS, and SpeedBleeders. Two items I would like to add here: When bleeding brakes, if you remove pressure from the brake lever slowly, you will not move much fluid in the system. It is much more effective on a brake bleeding job if you release (side-step) the lever...

MajBach, You can do this work with the bike on the center stand. Use two bungee cords at the rim to attach a broomstick tightly to the front tire, up as close as possible to the hub. The bungee cords will be around the front and back of the wheel, on the rim. Do the same with another...

    Lowering

Paul, The stock seat has two positions, high and low. See the Owners Manual. Boots with thick aggressive heels and treads ("waffle-stompers") will bring the Earth closer, and you'll be walking taller. Use caution on stairs and curbs at first, until you become accustomed to them.

New to the forum and to Fjr

Bob, The stock handlebars have several positions available. You might want to try those options. Aftermarket handlebar risers and angle plates may or may not give you the hand position you need. They are typically very limited in results, and expensive. I favor converting to standard...

Here is how you can know if the tires are fresh. Sometimes, even the warehouse can be sending you old rubber that does not sell fast. Click the link, and scroll down. After a tire has been run backwards, I would not trust it with my life. To me, that is false economy, especially on a front...

Umm . . . You might consider marking the direction of rotation on the rim (crayon or better), and then just taking the rim and tire back to that dealer; no trailer, no Taco, just get it there in any econobox available. I don't know Shinko, but I LOVES me my Pirelli Angel GTs (Spec A for...

Check the balance of the front tire/wheel. Also, I would want to know that the front shock oil is the correct weight/specs, and that the correct amount of oil is in the forks. What you describe as "ice" sounds spooky, but fixable. Front tire pressure can cause poor handling. Too much, and the...

    Steeringhead bearings.

This has nothing to do with front tire wear-pattern issues, but if your handlebars oscillate at any speed, hands off, the first and best fix is replacing the ball bearings in the steering head with tapered roller bearings. Beyond that you may need to balance or replace the front tire. I have...

    Steeringhead bearings.

Klikoo, If I did that work, I would want the best possible bearings, with the best grease available. I (one time) had a steering head bearing failure on my GL500 Interstate, and to the best of my ability, man, Never Again. Confidence is priceless.

Gen II Rear Suspension Bearing Lubrication

Fred, Thanks. Didn't see it here. Was the follow-on discussion similar? My Relay Arm with Zerks is already here, just waiting until I decide the original unit needs some help. FJReady does nice work.

    Hello, new member.

Welcome! Pull up a seat, and relax. You probably speak my language better than I can speak yours. ;) You can add your general location and your bike description to your avatar and your signature, if you like. I did so, on my posts. That information can help us, when trying to advise you.

Gen II Rear Suspension Bearing Lubrication

FWIW, Snowflake on another FJR forum has been reworking the FJR Relay Arm to include Zerk fittings. He does good work at nice prices. If you locate a used Relay Arm, he can rebuild/rework that one, replacing only the bad parts, and installing Zerks. Then you will only have to swap in the...
