FJR does a Single Lindsey without success

Glad to hear you're mostly okay. You got bit by lack of visibility through the turn, something that could get many of us with the wrong combination. For those who do not know Angeles Crest, you could pretty much maintain 45 MPH for its entire 60-odd mile length without shifting your weight or...

    FJR Hot weather riding gear

I was riding near Ojai Saturday so I feel your pain. My Joe Rocket Phoenix jacket is great. I need to find mesh pants that fit as well (I'm larger than most mesh is available in). I also have some cheap Tourmaster mesh gloves but I don't feel as good about them in a crash so I only wear 'em...

    Handguns

.357 Mag can be loaded from wimpy target loads to wrist-twisting loads. So I'll chime in suggesting a S&W 686+ revolver, preferably in 4" length for versatility, just slightly over your goal price (maybe used?). Heavy enough for lower-than-9 mm recoil with target loads. Hot loads carry as...

    Tire repair kits

I'm with Skooter. I had inconsistent results with my Stop-N-Go (after lots of practice too). Sometimes they'd hold air for over ten minutes... and then leak. I changed to a $10 Monkey Grip kit similar to what is posted (but not T-handled) and all is right with the world again. Sticky string...

    autocom and alternator noise filtering

I went direct to battery also on my Pro-7. Then I e-mailed AutoCom about the noise you describe and they pretty much ignored my explanation and told me to go direct to the battery. No duh, thanks for all the bananas! Now I just run the 9V power and everything is good (except for buying a 9V...

    Lane sharing

I can't imagine not being able to lane split in urban areas, after 25-odd years of doing it in CA (SF and LA). That must suck. I lived near Syracuse NY for a few years but they don't have "real" traffic, though the locals think they do.

    `06 FJR Problems already?!

Yeah, I do think it is over-reacting to even say "something is wrong" based on your personal sense of the noise plus a tech's ear who hasn't listened to even ONE other '06 FJR. And even if some of the numbers posted in this thread are correct, this board accounts for 25% of the FJR's in the...

Gear Drive Oil for $32 a pint?

Since you didn't find all the previous posts, don't forget to look for a GL-5 rating (IIRC) on your choice, not just any hypoid oil. Someone yell at me here if I fubared the GL-number.

    Kickstand Mishap

If you hate ours you must never have had an older Ducati's spring-loaded dime-side side stand. Now THOSE were awful. I lost count of the number of riders who dumped their Duc because they jiggled slightly during dismount and their spring folded the stand.

    FJR down

Sorry to hear about it. At least you weren't in the middle of a ride after those minor injuries like when I dropped mine...

"Wild Bill" Highway Pegs Review for '06

It is the same on my '05. Fortunately my boots' soles have a recess in the middle that fits perfectly onto the raised ends of Bill's stock pegs. If that doesn't work for you then you need to swap the actual folding pegs for longer ones (available, well, everywhere).

    Carb Tune vesus Carb Stix

+1 on the Carbtune. I had the same concerns but I read all the reviews and mine seem to work fine. They have more 'stiction' than liquid mercury but the bike vibrates enough to keep 'em floaty.

    FJR powered car

I like the Supertrapp idea, with adjustable discs. That way you can be as noisy or as quiet as you like and change your mind whenever.

    flat tire

Illegal to patch? That's creepy. It may not be illegal here but two of my local dealers won't do it for tires on a FJR ("too much HP, too much liability"). I had a small nail hole in mid-tread. I had poor results with the Stop-N-Go mushroom (held for a while then leaked) but an old-fashioned...

    Inflatable jackets

On the positive side, if the bike takes over completely, some of us will see higher lean angles than we normally run...

    Autcom Pro AVI Intercom evaluation

If anyone is having a problem with not enough volume from an Ipod through an AutoCom I suggest you work on speaker location. I can hear my Pro7 just fine, with the 3 dB plug in place, at 80 MPH, with my silicone earplugs in! You've heard it before and you'll hear it again -- AutoCom speaker...

    Fried Clutch anyone?

Since your dealer is, um, dealing with it my comment doesn't matter. But... it is possible to "glaze" some clutches by excess slipping. This is not a ruined clutch but it can take quite some time to recover its friction properties. How do I know? I owned a Honda S2000 and to perform a...

    Autcom Pro AVI Intercom evaluation

Thanks for the review. That background noise sensor would be a very welcome addition to my Pro7.

    Irans FJR-3

Well, how can you be SURE we didn't give them the early research? You should recall that we were very buddy-buddy with the Shah of Iran. That would have been 1979 or earlier but you never know...

    Inflatable jackets

I haven't seen that one before. I think Dainese was first to publish on this type of garment. While I like the concept I am concerned about inflation time. I notice the test data was performed on a pre-inflated garment and they claim inflation in "less than a half-second." Compared to...
