    It's a good day

That's great news Ray. My wife had an aneurysm clipped this past April. 8 inch zipper and a plate in her head. Couldn't be repaired with the wire. Caught it in the nick of time. Modern medicine is awesome! You can't even tell she had the surgery. Well, except for the occasional twitch.

    Quiet Forum These Days?

Not a prolific poster, but I've been around here long enough to have experienced some of the good ol' days and witnessed the implementation of rule 10. One of the things I miss most is random posts regarding sheep accompanied by the occasional appropriate photo.

Older motorcyclists most likely to die in crashes

The article talks about "erosion of skills". What if I never had any skills? Am I good to go? Pterodactyl, I've been in a similar boat. Really hoping the last thing I see in this world is not a fluorescent light in a hospital ceiling.

The next big thing a Continental Divide dual sport ride

Great ride report, Uberkul! You've got me wistfully staring at my 950 Adv and thinking I just might be able to do this.

    I can't get it up

Garauld's stiffy kit and a sack of cement in the topcase should help your wheelie dilemma responsibly. BTW, wheelie method for my Gen 1 is: open throttle all the way in first gear. Get your weight forward or it may be a short ride. No clutching, no off/on throttle action. For further...

    Torque loss after service.

When I removed the cams for valve adjustment and CCT replacement I cut a piece of closed cell foam, commonly used as a packing material, to fit tightly to the lower half of the crank sprocket. This held the chain tightly to the sprocket and allowed enough slack to change CCT and/or remove cams...

    KTM Twins

My brother has an SMT. Really cool bike. I have a 950 Adventure and like you 'Zilla, I LOVE my KTM. Everybody should have at least one.

What did you do to your FJR today?

I rode it! Due to health issues, I haven't been able to ride the Big Blue Beast for about 6 months. Fresh oil and filter and a bath. I was rewarded with a front wheel in the air and a snarl from the Holeshots. The Beast Lives!!!

    Corbin All Day Seat Mod

"Value" is in the eye of the "value-er". When I bought my Gen1, it came with an almost new Corbin seat. It was really nice to look at, not so nice to sit on. I also had the stock seat. Switching back and forth, I determined the Corbin was a 1 hour seat, the stocker about 45 minutes.Yes, the...

Brokeback FJR - A ride report told from 2 Perspectives

    Really bad day today

JUST A DOG From time to time, people tell me, "lighten up, it's just a dog," or "that's a lot of money for just a dog." They don't understand the distance travelled, the time spent, or the costs involved for "just a dog." Some of my proudest moments have come about with "just a dog." Many...

    Fork adjustment / setting

"when i ride, exemple and i hit a turn with a bumper , i feel the front wheel is detaching from the ground , but very few ( maybe is my imagination , i'm sure some of you had this feeling before ) like is bumping and get back to normal in short milliseconds and on mountain roads when i ride and...

Wee-Strom on Gravel - Shinko 804/805 Make it all Good!

Just got a set of 804/805 Shinkos for the KTM. One thing I have read on the ADV site is they are quite greasy on pavement for the first few miles, more so than most. Fred, did you experience this?

What other bike did you have right before the FJR?

My prior bike was a Gen 1 FZ1. Wish I could have kept it, comfy, sporty and fast. But I wanted to get back to offroad so I obtained a KTM 950 Adventure. This explains my "other" vote for type of rider. On road the KTM can be a bit hooligan, so I identify myself as a sport touring adv dual sport...

    Gen 1 (2004) Handlebar Vibrations

I've done everything you've done in addition to the Helibar risers that were already on the bike when I bought it. Still had pain in the outside part of my throttle hand. Then I installed the MV Motorrad riser plate, which allows adjustment of the bar angle fore and aft. The angle that seemed to...

    Fix for leaking oil filters

I also used a Napa Gold filter last weekend. No leaks.

What did you do to your FJR today?

Changed oil, filter, final drive oil, polished the gas tank and cleaned the screen. Took about 20 minutes. Changed oil and filter on the KTM 950. Had to remove crash bar, left fuel tank, skid plate, oil return check valve to clean screen, clean another screen on opposite side of bike from oil...

    Final drive gear oil capicity

Pants, how did you get gear oil all over your shirt? Did you throw some over your shoulder for luck?

    Time again for Thunder Beach!

Really great photos. I have actually performed a couple of the stunts myself. Unfortunately, my separation from the moto was a lot more than momentary and we didn't land together. Really enjoyed your post, thanks!

    Too big to cry ...

Had a military style pintal hitch on all my service trucks for years. Some days I wanted to bash my shin on it just to get it over with.
