So, I finally joined the ranks

Wow, upgrading the hard way. And are the Canyon Cages crash bars any good if you got crashed into anyway? kidding... Congrats on the new bike though. Make sure pictures make it onto here. I too am a fan of standard valve stems and an angled gauge. Cheap to change to new stems at every tire...

    Nowthen Tech Day 4/23

Thanks from me too Mike and Joy. You throw a heck of a day together! Though I always leave with a severe case of garage envy. Great place and great people.

    Pulled the trigger on a 2006 FJR1300

Another congrats on achieving one of the greatest examples of motorbikedom. Only have 66k on mine as the last few years I have been limited. Of course, the color of the 2006 is so awesome that it beared repeating. If you strike out on any of the tail options I also have the stock piece that...

Planing a MN North Shore ride

I forgot to add, since you are on the north side of the cities, Duluth is really just a boring 2-2 1/2 hour bombing run up the freeway. Stop in Duluth for breakfast (or Tobies in Hinckley on the way). Plan on a stop at Aerostich, because you should, and then take scenic 61 up the shore to...

    Need new boots.

All that boot talk and no mention of mine. I have loved my Aerostich Combat Tourers for over 100,000 miles. They are always comfortable and though not rated as waterproof, only got my sock a little wet after riding in an all day rain, and that was just near the end of the trip with 10 hours of...

Yellow (not hi-viz) riding gear; who makes it?

Another vote for Aerostich. Don't worry about the Hi-Viz designation. It shows dirt so fast the edge comes off the glare. However, it still shows up great on a dark day and at night. It is good to be seen.

Planing a MN North Shore ride

Because it is fun to spend other peoples money... Congrats on choosing the north shore. Very scenic, although not real technical. I think you are smart if you are viewing this as a first scouting trip for future rides. If at all possible, park the little ones and bring the wife along. Plan...

Fuel Cap re key advise needed please

When my ignition was replaced (before the recall, and again with the recall) the dealer cut keys with the ignition on one edge and the other locks on the other. It is a minor pain to align the key with what lock you are using, but it is a very minor pain. This has worked for many years and...

    2006 vs 2008 FJR1300

Fun part of this deal is you can't go wrong! Any of those FJRs will be a great ride. You will love that 2010, however you do have to accept that blue is a faster color, and the 2006 blue has been repeated for good reason. It is just bee you tee full. However, all FJR colors are great because...

    mcl lowering brackets

My lowering brackets have made the difference between riding and not. Bad knees have plagued me. I do have to remember not to leave my toes hanging out in the turns though. If I forget, I get that sphincter tightening reminder when my boots drag. Hate when that happens. as for the knees...

    Leather verses Vinyl

Ok, I know this will not adequately answer your question. It is just a note. After 9 years of putting it off, my seat is currently at Russell. I figure I am overdue for a day long saddle. I struggled with that leather/vinyl question every year. Talking to many owners I found you probably buy...

    Riding to Russell

Regarding paying more for ride in service, I think I get it. My seat is there right now getting built. Kim tells me it will take 2weeks to build. So my guess is that when you send in a seat, they can work the different steps to their efficiency advantage. When you do ride in service, they have...

    Family time with weapons

Quick word about eye protection... I have been hit by flying brass in the safety glasses twice. Both times it was from the people shooting near me, not my own weapon. Glad I didn't have to deal with a scratched or worse eyeball from something I would have never seen coming. Eye protection is...

Nowthen, time for anudder Tech Day 4/25

I know it is a little late to ask, but... I am going to be sending my 2006 seat into Russell very soon (bout time) and will be a few weeks without a seat. Does anybody out there have a second gen seat just lying around with nothing to do that I could borrow for a few weeks? No harm in asking I...

Nowthen, time for anudder Tech Day 4/25

Well, again like every year you've done this, I am going to try and make it. I think there is a chance it could happen this year! I just put a set of Erica's on my bike so I will just have to compare what others have done I guess. However, I hear the brats and such there are worth the trip...
