FJRF013.2: Recall ECU Reprogram (Post Trans Recall) (2016-2021)

Uh, unless Yamaha's lawyers all died, there's a snowball's chance in hell that sentence wouldn't be included. "Sure the gas tank's seams will open up like a bag of Cheetos, but keep on riding." Uh-huh. After I got the gear recall, not knowing what the odds of failure were, I grounded the...

FJRF013.2: Recall ECU Reprogram (Post Trans Recall) (2016-2021)

Since the replace 2nd recall involves an ECU flash, I'd be surprised if the two weren't rolled up together. Ask your dealer or, if you can, tech.

    Battery replacement

What Speedy23 said. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. In general, part of the value in these batteries is a very good service life. Unless it was drained to zero, and left alone repeatedly (which no battery copes with well), nothing to worry about. Even a wet battery should hold on for about...

    Seeking advice on first FJR

Expanding on the BMW RT... I've ridden several, of varying ages. I settled on the K1200RS because the RT I tried felt like a sewing machine". "RT smooth"? Hah, I say. Hah! Later, I rode a friend's '07, and the one that argues against slip-ons. The '07 rider keeps after me to buy his (age...

Sorry - didn't mean to write a small book.

    Seeking advice on first FJR

I have a '17 with the adjustable suspension. I'm in the "used to ride, then I didn't, and now I do again" group. The new group started with a Honda CB900 (tourer with cowhorns, and HD seating, 10 speed box [well, hi range, lo range & 5 speed main box in front of that - story available at with...

FJRF013.2: Recall ECU Reprogram (Post Trans Recall) (2016-2021)

I went through the 2nd gear replacement recall - nothing noteworthy found. Seems to me, this new recall sounds like an answer, looking for a question.

FJRF013 - Transmission Recall for Second Gear (DE, UK, CA, & US) (2016-2020)

Getting the second gear swap was a cluster fornication of the highest order. Yamaha took forever to get the parts to the dealer (yes, I believe that), and then changed the how-to from "drop the motor" to leaving at the top half of the motor in place. AFAIK, none of the recalled bikes showed any...

To get to the other side. I dream of a far better world, where a bear's motives are no longer questioned.

Why did the bear cross the road?

    The ONE Picture Ride Report

Yes, but what was that bear doing in the woods? Or was he/she singing "why don't we do it in the middle of the road"?

    A New Hope - TomTom Rider 550

AFAIK, I can't say "take me from Pigeon Forge to Brantley". However, I can put in "Brantley" and add "Pgeon Forge" as a waypoint. On arrival at Pigeon Forge... You can guess the rest.  Finding a destination can be frustrating, though. I want to go to a store on a far distant shore; if I don't...

    A New Hope - TomTom Rider 550

Reviving a very old thread... After a lot of miles with the 550, it's better than any Garmin product in some regards, worse in some, and the same as Garmin when it comes to company support.  First, the 550's routing is generally the same at the 660. The applies to Google Maps, for that matter...

Which isn't to say the straight line winds associated with this event wouldn't blow the OP out of his socks.  So, OP, what happened? Non-event?

Thinking of moving to the FJR

I just finished a 320 mi ride, using 2 up (thought I'd picked two up & luggage - oops) and soft. There is a distinct difference but frost heaves, tar ridges, etc. still came banging through. But enough of what's definitely OT. My error about misstating whether or not the front end is adjusted.

Thinking of moving to the FJR

OK, I will admit to being a total idiot re: front and rear end adjustment in the ES. All of that said, here's a quote from the March '16 Cycle World review: "For 2016, there are two versions of the FJR1300 available: the A model with traditional suspension and the ES model with electronic...
